††††A wind farm is a group of wind turbines that generate electricity. The first wind farm was built in 1982 at Goldendale Columbia River Gorge in Washington State, USA. The three turbines, each with blades 90 metres long, were able to generate 2.5 megawatts (2.5 million watts) of power. There is now a wind farm at Altamont Pass, California in the United States consisting of 300 wind turbines. Smaller wind farms have been built in many other parts of the world, including Britain. Denmark has built the world's first offshore wind farm off Lolland Island in the North Sea.
