††A sauna is a special type of steam bath. It consists of a small room in which the temperature is raised to about 90∞C. The bather usually stays in the sauna for only a few minutes and then has a cold shower or swim. A sauna is considered to provide a healthy way of relieving the body of impurities and excess fluid. It provides very hot and humid conditions intended to promote loss of unwanted substances through sweat. It is now popular in health clubs. The sauna was first used in Finland in 100 BC. In the original saunas, cold water was thrown over hot stones to produce steam in a small cabin.
