Brothers born in Lyon, France they were both fascinated with the idea of flight. They discovered the principles of the 'hot-air balloon' by holding burning paper under the opening of a large silk bag and watching it rise. In 1783, their prototype balloon had its first flight carrying a sheep, duck and rooster!. The first manned flight was on November 21st 1783 and it flew from Bois de Boulogne to Paris - a total of 5 miles.
