These include life jackets, often worn while travelling at sea, and floating rings which are attached to a piece of rope and can be thrown from the shore. Buoyancy aids can contain air, but may also contain other materials which float on water. Some life jackets contain a special kind of foam. Others are spontaneously filled with air when the user pulls a special cord.
