††A helicopter is an aircraft that achieves lift and is propelled along by means of a rotating wing, or rotor, on the top of the fuselage. The first design for a helicopter came from Leonardo da Vinci. In 1853, Sir George Cayley invented a toy helicopter which could reach 30 metres. It is possible that he copied the idea from the ancient Chinese. The Italian Enrico Forlanini built a helicopter in 1877 which flew at a height of 15 metres for a minute. It had two counter-rotating propellers driven by steam.
