††††The sound barrier was first broken by a Canadian aircraft in 1952 and the first supersonic airliner was introduced by Russia in 1968. Concorde, a combined project of the French and English, became famous because it was the first regular supersonic passenger airliner. It started operating in 1976.
Concorde made its first flight in 1969 and is able to cruise at Mach 2, or twice the speed of sound (about 2,170 kph or 1,350 mph).
