††††Chocolate is a food product made from the cocoa bean, now cultivated mainly in Africa.
The first chocolate bar was made in Switzerland by Francois-Louis Cailler in 1819. He also introduced the first milk chocolate bar in 1875. Cocoa beans had been previously used to make drinks by early Central and South Americans, a secret brought to Europe by the Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes in the sixteenth century. The Ivory Coast is now the world's top cocoa exporter.
