Prehistoric man developed a means of drilling holes using a bow and arrow. The point of the arrow was placed against the material to be drilled. The bow was then positioned horizontally so that the string made one turn around the arrow. When the bow was drawn back and forth the arrow rotated, creating a drilling action.
