††††Cuneiform is an ancient system of writing with wedge-shaped marks impressed on soft clay with a straight length of reed, bone, wood or metal (this tool was also called a cuneiform). Cuneiform writing first emerged in Mesopotamia around 3000 BC.
Other cultures evolved different methods of writing. The ancient Chinese, for example, carved into ox-bone, while the Egyptians wrote on papyrus with a kind of ink, or carved hieroglyphs into stone.
