When Paul Brainard wrote PageMaker, the first desktop publishing package for microcomputers, it revolutionised the publishing industry. It was initially only available for Macintosh computers, but later became available for PC-compatible computers as well. Now many other desktop packages are available. They all enable the pages to be previewed on the computer screen before final printing.
