††††Louis Braille, who had himself been blind since the age of 3, finished developing his alphabet for the blind at the age of 25, in 1834.
The final alphabet consisted of 34 "letters" made by pressing a pattern of raised dots into paper. These could then be "read" by touch. However, it wasn't until after Braille's death in 1952 that his system came into use worldwide.
