††††The aqualung, used for travelling underwater, was invented by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Emile Gagnan in 1943. It is also known as scuba gear (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus).
It consists of a bottle of compressed air and a valve which gives the diver air at the right pressure. Using his equipment, Jacques Cousteau became famous for his underwater adventures. The device was crucial to many secret operations during the Second World War.
