  3. This CD-ROM contains the SIMTEL-20 MSDOS Archive.  Here is a list of some
  4. important files:

  6. go.bat          Batch file that lists the readme files
  7. readme.txt      This file.
  8. view.exe        Program to view the index files, and select files to unzip
  9. cdf.exe         Command line program for searching the index file
  10. index.txt       A list of all the files in the archive
  11. index.z         Compressed copy of index.txt
  12. index.zip       Zipped copy of index.txt
  13. pkunzip.exe     Program for unzipping files named *.zip
  14. pkunpak.exe     Program for unpacking files named *.arc
  15. msdos/          Directory containing the Simtel MSDOS Archive
  16. _bbs/           Directory containing support for bulletin board systems

  19. Although you may own this disk, you do not own the programs recorded on
  20. it.  Many of the programs on this disk are shareware.  You are free to
  21. try each program for a limited amount of time.  If you are satisfied,
  22. and want to continue to use the program, you are required to register
  23. the program by sending a specified amount of money directly to the the
  24. author of the program.  In many cases the author will send you the most
  25. up to date version of the program and a printed manual.  Please check
  26. the individual files for specific information.

  28. If you have access to the internet, you can access the SIMTEL-20 archives
  29. via anonymous ftp at WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL.  There are also mirror sites
  30. at WUARCHIVE.WUSTL.EDU and OAK.OAKLAND.EDU.

  32. WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL is owned and operated by the US Army Information
  33. Systems Command, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

  35. The maintainers of the SIMTEL-20 archive asked me to include this
  36. disclaimer:

  38.     Due to the large number of files available, the SIMTEL-20 archive
  39.     maintainers cannot possibly attempt to validate the proper
  40.     operation of the various programs.  When a program bug is
  41.     reported, immediate action is taken to either correct the error or
  42.     remove the offending program from the archives.  Still, users must
  43.     understand that all archive programs are offered AS IS, and the
  44.     archive maintainers specifically disclaim any liability should
  45.     these programs malfunction or cause damage, incidental or
  46.     otherwise.  When testing ANY new software, be certain that all
  47.     information stored on disk is backed-up before you start, so that
  48.     you can recover if files are damaged or erased.  This is
  49.     particularly true if you have a hard disk, in which case
  50.     malfunctions can be spectacularly disastrous.
