  9.      Zipper II now supports arc,lharc, and pak conversions as well
  10.      as automatic conversion of old zip files to the new implosion
  11.      method of PKZIP 1.0.
  12.       
  13.      All the utilities have been recompiled and modified for Turbo
  14.      Pascal 5.0, and the environment scan routines have
  15.      incorporated Borlands library. Speed is increased by over 30
  16.      percent. Note that all the problems we have found with using
  17.      these utilities have been due to bad config files. People
  18.      modifying their ZIPPER.CFG file and accidentally modifying or
  19.      partially deleting one of the lines in the file. If any of
  20.      these utilites behave weirdly, or you get the Weird Error
  21.      abort just delete the .CFG file and Zipper will make you a new
  22.      one..

  26.      NOTE: ZIPPER rev H and on, has had the blocks taken out of the
  27.      recursive routine for checking embedded arcs/paks. If you are
  28.      going to run into deep arcs and want to speed up conversion a
  29.      ramdisk can crash on a big deep arcfile. ..might consider
  30.      doing like Jim Bready of Nite Modulator and if you want extra
  31.      speed use an industrial strength size cache. What this depth
  32.      also means is that there will be no arcs or paks left inside
  33.      zips.. and that's the way we want it.. no mo arcs..
  34.       
  35.      During testing in the Bytebrother Labs, after application of
  36.      multiple Black Russians we were able to create an arc file
  37.      with 140 arcs and paks going over fifteen levels deep with
  38.      multiple bad arcfiles and ZIPPER performed flawlessly.. If
  39.      ZIPPER finds embedded arc or pak files deep within an arc they
  40.      will not abort but will save the files on the level of
  41.      corruption and rezip the entire arc. If logging is enabled
  42.      with the /l switch an entry will be made in the log warning
  43.      you that the ZIP file has bad embedded arcs/paks inside..
  44.      there is a ziptest file in the arc.. a map of a test.. you'll
  45.      find seven levels of arcs beneath the first... if you are not
  46.      using ZIPPER have your conversion utility swallow this one..
  47.      If it doesn't find and convert embedded levels of arcs you are
  48.      making zips with embedded pak and arc files... why..?

  53.      If you are running an early version of PAK prior to version
  54.      2.0 you will NEED to run a program called PAKINST in order to
  55.      install it and tell it where it's CNF file is. Versions of
  56.      PAK after 2.0 do not need the installation done..

  58.      The game plan for using these utilities on a BBS is as
  59.      folows.

  68.      files to the new imploded zip format with PKZIP1.0.

  70.      Nitely per Event Zipper your uploads directory to convert any
  71.      and all ARC and PAK or LZH files. You might want to use the
  72.      /i switch and have it ignore the files already zipped.

  74.      For converted zips that you want your BBS add on run Comment
  75.      on the directories and attach the new comments, after placing
  76.      your bbs logo in the ZIPPER.CFG file.
  77.       
  78.      After Cleaning and Zipping all the files in your uploads run
  79.      DIRCHECK on the upload dirlist to change the .ARC/.PAK/.LZH
  80.      file extensions in the list to the correct .ZIP.

  82.      If the archive utilities.. especially PKZIP should suddenly
  83.      start giving you help screens instead of executing commands
  84.      delete your ZIPPER.CFG file and run ZIPPER again in order to
  85.      create a new one..
