  4. Phrase Watcher finds all sentences in a document containing bad
  5. or wordy phrases.  When you use too many words, you tire your
  6. reader and make it more difficult for him to understand the
  7. important words.  Worse yet, some phrases are just plain wrong
  8. and will leave the reader with a bad impression of you.
  9.  
  10. You can use Phrase Watcher along with a spelling checker to help
  11. you produce better documents.  The spelling checker will catch
  12. the misspellings.  Phrase Watcher will catch the sloppy phrases.
  13. Use it for letters, proposals, reports, and documents where a
  14. favorable impression is important.

  18.                      USING PHRASE WATCHER

  21. Phrase Watcher accepts a text file as input and produces a file
  22. of sentences with the questionable phrases.  Each phrase is
  23. bracketed with the characters *[ ]*.  Under each sentence will
  24. be suggestions for possible improvements.  Phrase Watcher
  25. accepts ASCII text files as well as WordStar document files.
  26. Many other popular word processors can produce files compatible
  27. with Phrase Watcher.  Not all phrases found by this tool will be
  28. bad in all situations, but Phrase Watcher will help with finding
  29. those that are bad.

  31. To run Phrase Watcher, issue the following MS-DOS command:

  33.             PHRASE  inputfile  outputfile
  34.  
  35. With version 2.4 of Phrase Watcher, the files PHRASE.DAT and
  36. EXPLAIN.DAT must be located in a certain disk directory.  Run
  37. the program PHRINST to change the disk directory for these two
  38. files.

  42.                          USING PHRINST
  43.                          =============

  45. To run the installation program, make sure the file PHRASE.EXE
  46. is in the current directory or floppy drive.  The disk drive
  47. must not be write-protected since the file PHRASE.EXE is
  48. modified.  Issue the following MS-DOS command:

  50.              PHRINST
  51.  
  52. When prompted, type in the name of the directory where the files
  53. PHRASE.DAT and EXPLAIN.DAT can be found.  The directory entry
  54. should include the backlash as the last character.  Enter the
  55. empty string to use the default directory.  Here are some
  56. examples:

  58.               \                    root directory
  59.               ..\                  parent directory
  60.               B:\                  root directory of drive b:
  61.               modem\               directory named MODEM

  65.                          DISTRIBUTION

  68. The shareware version of Phrase Watcher is distributed on
  69. electronic bulletin boards and by computer clubs.  You may use
  70. the software and make multiple backup copies.  Versions of
  71. Phrase Watcher designated as "shareware" may be given to friends
  72. and uploaded to electronic bulletin boards provided no changes
  73. have been made to the distribution package.  Do not distribute
  74. copies of the program which do not have the initial screen
  75. explaining the shareware concept.

  81. that can be printed on your printer if you wish.  In return,

  84. entry will NOT appear in the copy of the program you will
  85. receive upon registration.
