  21. We encourage you  to upload JOBS'  Shareware version to  your favorite
  22. BBS or network.   All we ask  is that you  upload the following  three
  23. files without changing their names or contents:

  27. While JOBS32.ABS is not needed to execute JOBS, it is helpful to those
  28. who would like to know more about JOBS before downloading it.

  30. It is important that the  names remain unchanged as they  indicate the
  31. version and are well suited to directory searches on most systems.

  33. When giving JOBS to friends, on disk, these three files should also be
  34. included so  that they  may also  upload a  proper file  set to  their
  35. favorite BBS.

  53.                         What is "SHAREWARE"?
  54.  
  55. "Shareware" is a term that  describes a unique marketing approach  for
  56. software.   Shareware,  unlike  its  commercial  counterparts,  may be
  57. freely copied and passed around.  It may (and often is) distributed by
  58. electronic bulletin boards (BBSs), computer clubs, and disk libraries.
  59. The authors of the programs,  however, retain all legal rights  to the
  60. software (a copyright).  They also  request that people who try  their
  61. software and  decide to  use it  send a  "registration fee"  (which is
  62. equivalent to purchasing the software).

  65.                       Isn't it "Public Domain"?
  66.  
  67. NO!   Public  domain  software  has  been  released  completely to the
  68. public, and the author retains no legal rights.  Shareware authors, on
  69. the  other  hand,  hold  copyrights  on  their  programs.  Just as for
  70. commerical  soft-  ware,   the  shareware  programmer's   software  is
  71. protected by U.S. and inter- national copyright law.

  74.                     What do I get if I register?
  75.  
  76. Many shareware companies offer printed documentation, disks, and tele-
  77. phone support  as incentives  for users  to register  their shareware.
  78. Some companies also offer free updates and commissions.  But the  most
  79. important benefit of registration is that you receive a legal  license
  80. to continue using the software.

  83.                Aren't registration payments voluntary?
  84.  
  85. No.   While  some  authors  indicate  that payment is voluntary, their
  86. willingness to  give their  software away  does not  infringe upon  or
  87. modify  the  rights  of  other  authors.   If  a  shareware  program's
  88. documentation clearly states that  a registration payment is  required
  89. for regular use, then you are  bound by law to register or  stop using
  90. the program.

  93.          What is the Association of Shareware Professionals?
  94.  
  95. The  Association  of  Shareware  Professionals  (ASP)  is a non-profit
  96. organization incorporated in the state  of Washington.  It is made  up
  97. of shareware authors nationwide who desire to see recognized standards
  98. established for shareware programs and companies.  The authors share a
  99. code of ethics and  have agreed to adhere  to the ASP's standards  for
  100. software and documentation.

  102. The ASP  is also  striving to  help disk  dealers, the  media, and the
  103. public to understand  the nature and  benefits of shareware.   Through
  104. cooperation and mutual standards,  the ASP hopes to  promote shareware
  105. as a viable alternative to commercial software.
