- Dear Lotus User:
-
- 123_SEEK is a very fast Search and Replace Add-In for Lotus 1-2-3
- release 2.0 or greater. It works very much like the search and
- replace functions that you find in most word processing programs.
-
- With 123_SEEK you can make changes quickly and accurately
- throughout your spreadsheet. For example, let's say that you
- need to change 1988 to 1989 everywhere it is used in your
- spreadsheet. Simply tell 123_SEEK to find "1988" and replace it
- with "1989". It will zip through your spreadsheet making all the
- changes for you automatically. Think of the time you'll save.
- And you will never miss making a change again.
-
- 123_SEEK has many useful options for your convenience. You can
- specify case-sensitivity, direction of search, conditional or
- unconditional replaces, and much more.
-
- 123_SEEK is distributed under a unique marketing approach called
- Shareware. SMI encourages you to try our product before you buy
- it. If you like our product and want to continue to use it, we
- ask that you send us a $20 registration fee.
-
- As an added bonus to you for registering, you will get a 25%
- commission for every new 123_SEEK user who registers using your
- registration number.
-
- So we encourage you to freely distribute unmodified copies of
- 123_SEEK.
-
- The Shareware concept depends on your support.
-
- Thank you and best wishes.
-
- Sincerely,
-
-
- SMI Corporation

-
- P.S. We have tested the speed of our search and replace against
- others. Ours wins hands down. It was at least two
- times faster and in some cases six times faster than the
- Funk utilities.

- ABOUT SHAREWARE
-
-
- 123_SEEK is being distributed under a unique marketing method
- known as Shareware. The Association of Shareware Professionals
- (ASP) offers the following definition of Shareware:
-
- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
- before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and
- continue using it, you are expected to register. Individual
- programs differ on details -- some request registration
- while others require it, some specify a maximum trial
- period. With registration, you get anything from the simple
- right to continue using the software to an updated program
- with printed manual.
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial
- software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with
- a few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware
- authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
- authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In
- both cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main
- difference is in the method of distribution. The author
- specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
- software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group.
- For example, some authors require written permission before
- a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
-
- So, Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of
- software. You should find software that suits your needs
- and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or Shareware. The
- Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because
- you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is
- low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate
- money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you
- don't pay for it.

- INTRODUCTION
-
- With 123_SEEK you can quickly find text or number strings in your
- spreadsheet and, if you want, replace them automatically.
-
- If you're only looking for all occurrences of something in your
- spreadsheet you should use the Search command. If you want to
- change all occurrences of a particular item within your
- spreadsheet, you should use the Replace command.
-
- When using either the Search or Replace commands you will have
- some options. For example, you can specify whether you want the
- search done in a columnwise or rowwise method. You can specify to
- match exactly as you typed it or match without regard to upper or
- lower case characters. And other useful options that you will
- learn about in the "USING 123_SEEK" chapter.
-
- 123_SEEK looks, feels and operates exactly like Lotus itself. To
- select commands from the menus, you can either highlight your
- choice or type the first letter of the command. The ESC key will
- back you up one step at a time and F1 calls for help.
-
-

-
-
- GETTING STARTED
-
- This chapter contains information you need to get 123_SEEK
- installed and running.
-
- Please check for a READ.ME file for any new information. If no
- file exists, don't worry, there's nothing new.
-
- INSTALLING 123_SEEK
-
- The installation looks a bit lengthy, but it really isn't bad.
- We've included everything about using 1-2-3 add-ins. Some of it
- you probably won't care about; but you might, so we included it.
-
- For a short cut and to make 123_SEEK truly at your finger tips,
- we suggest doing the following within "All About Using 1-2-3
- Add-Ins:".
-
- First, do Installing The 1-2-3 Add-In Manager. When you get to
- "You can make your own driver set if you wish:", if you don't
- know what it means, skip it, it doesn't matter anyway. But, you
- should read the last two paragraphs of that section before going
- on.
-
- Next, do "Attaching 123_SEEK TO 1-2-3". In step 3 be sure to
- select a function key for 123_SEEK. That way when you need
- 123_SEEK, all you need to do is press the ALT+function key that
- you select.
-
- Now, do "Autoloading 123_SEEK". In step 4 you should probably
- select No. In most cases you don't need to have 123_SEEK invoked
- every time you start 1-2-3. In step 5 be sure to select a
- function key for 123_SEEK. And be sure to Select Update to save
- your changes in the configuration file when you're finished.
-
- All done. Now you can proceed to "Using 123_SEEK".
-
- All About Using 1-2-3 Add-Ins (Probably more than you'll
- ever want to know)
-
- Since 123_SEEK is a 1-2-3 add-in, using it involves four steps:
- installing the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager (ADN_MGR.DRV), attaching,
- invoking, and detaching. Installing the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager
- loads it into your driver set and is a one-time operation.
- Attaching loads 123_SEEK from disk into memory and links it to
- 1-2-3. Invoking carries out 123_SEEK's function. Detaching
- unlinks 123_SEEK from 1-2-3 and frees up the memory it used.
-
- 1 2 3 _ S E E K Page 3 8.88
-
-
-
- Installing The 1-2-3 Add-In Manager
-
- Note: If you have previously installed a 1-2-3 Add-In product
- from another company you need to copy only the 123_SEEK.ADN
- and 123_SEEK.HLP file to the same disk/directory as the 1-2-3
- System Disk. Then skip this step and proceed to the section
- titled "Attaching 123_SEEK to 1-2-3".
-
- Use the following utilities to install or remove the 1-2-3 Add-In
- Manager:
-
- ADD_MGR.EXE Installs the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager in the driver set.
-
- DEL_MGR.EXE Removes the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager from the driver set.
-
- If you have a hard disk system, perform the following steps.
-
- Before installing the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager, copy all the files
- from the 123_SEEK diskette into the same directory as the driver
- set you plan to work with. To install the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager
- (ADN_MGR.DRV) into the default 1-2-3 driver set, at the DOS
- prompt type:
-
- ADD_MGR 123.SET
-
- If you have a two diskette system, perform the following steps.
-
- You will not have enough room on your 1-2-3 System Disk for
- 123.DYN, ADN.CFG, and a driver set that contains the Add-In
- Manager (ADN_MGR.DRV). You must make room by removing 123.HLP
- from the System Disk. For a detailed explanation of how to use
- the Help Facility after it has been removed, see the 1-2-3
- Reference Manual. To remove 123.HLP, you should perform the
- following steps:
-
- 1. Copy 123.HLP to another diskette. Ex. COPY A:123.HLP B:
-
- 2. Start 1-2-3
-
- 3. Select /Worksheet Global Default Other Help
-
- 4. Select Removable
-
- 5. Then select Update
-
- 6. Exit 1-2-3
-
- 7. Remove 123.HLP from the System Disk. Ex. ERASE A:123.HLP
-
- 8. Copy the file 123.DYN from the PrintGraph Disk to the System
- Disk.
-
- 9. Copy the file 123.DYN from the PrintGraph Disk to the 123_SEEK
- disk.
-
- 1 2 3 _ S E E K Page 4 8.88
-
-
- Now you must copy the default driver set from your 1-2-3 System
- Disk to the 123_SEEK diskette. To install the 1-2-3 Add-In
- Manager (ADD_MGR.DRV) into the default driver set, at the DOS
- prompt type:
-
- ADD_MGR 123.SET
-
- After you install the Add-In Manager in the default driver set,
- copy your installed default driver set back to the 1-2-3 System
- Disk.
-
- If you modify your driver set with the Install program, the
- Add-In Manager is deleted. You must install the Add-In Manager
- again with ADD_MGR.EXE.
-
- You can make up your own driver set if you wish.
-
- (Most of you can skip this step and go to Attaching 123_SEEK To
- 1-2-3. Although, you might want to read the last two paragraphs
- of this step.)
-
- If you have a hard disk system.
-
- Install the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager into your own driver set by
- typing ADD_MGR driversetname.SET at the DOS prompt, where
- driversetname is the name of our own driver set and .SET is the
- required file extension.
-
- If you have a two diskette system.
-
- You must copy your own driver set to the 123_SEEK diskette to
- install the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager (ADN_MGR.DRV) into your own
- driver set, at the DOS prompt type: ADD_MGR driversetname.SET
- where driversetname is the name of your own driver set and .SET
- is the required file extension. After you install the Add-In
- Manager in your own driver set, copy your installed driver set
- back to the 1-2-3 System Disk.
-
- If you installed your own driver set, at the DOS prompt type: 123
- driversetname or LOTUS driversetname to start 1-2-3, where
- driversetname is the name of your own driver set.
-
- Now that the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager is installed into the driver
- set, and you have started a 1-2-3 session with that driver set,
- 1-2-3 assigns the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager to the function key
- ALT+F10. When you press ALT+F10 during the 1-2-3 session, the
- 1-2-3 Add-In Manager displays a menu with the selection Attach,
- Detach, Invoke, Clear, Setup, and Quit.
-
- If later you decide to delete the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager from the
- driver set, at the DOS prompt type: DEL_MGR 123.SET for the
- default driver set, or DEL_MGR driversetname.SET where
- driversetname is the name of your own driver set and .SET is the
- required file extension.
-
- 1 2 3 _ S E E K Page 5 8.88
-
-
- Attaching 123_SEEK To 1-2-3
-
- To use 123_SEEK, you must attach it to 1-2-3. Through the 1-2-3
- Add-In Manager, you can attach any number of add-in applications,
- and assign up to three of them to the function keys ALT+F7
- through ALT+F9.
-
- To attach 123_SEEK you must:
-
- 1. Press ALT+F10 and select Attach.
-
- A list appears of all of the 1-2-3 Add-Ins in the current
- directory.
-
- 2. Select 123_SEEK to attach.
-
- The Add-In Manager lists all of the function keys, ALT+F7 through
- ALT+F9, that are still available. (If none of these keys are
- available, the Add-In Manager skips this step and returns to the
- top level of the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager menu.)
-
- 3. Select a function key ALT+F7 through ALT+F9 or select No Key.
-
- If you select No Key, 123_SEEK must invoked from the invoke menu.
-
- If applications have been assigned to all of the function keys,
- the function key menu item will not appear.
-
-
- Invoking 123_SEEK in 1-2-3
-
- You can invoke 123_SEEK by either pressing its key combination or
- selecting it from the list of currently attached add-ins.
-
- If you have assigned 123_SEEK to one of the function keys ALT+F7
- through ALT+F9:
-
- Press the assigned key combination to invoke 123_SEEK.
-
- The second method lets you invoke 123_SEEK by selecting it from
- the list of currently attached add-ins.
-
- 1. Press ALT+F10 and select invoke.
-
- A list of all the currently attached 1-2-3 Add-Ins appears.
-
- 2. Select 123_SEEK.
-
- 1 2 3 _ S E E K Page 6 8.88
-
-
-
- Detaching 123_SEEK from 1-2-3
-
- To detach 123_SEEK, you must:
-
- 1. Press ALT+F10 and select Detach.
-
- A list of all the currently attached 1-2-3 Add-Ins appears.
-
- 2. Select 123_SEEK.
-
-
- Detaching All 1-2-3 Add-Ins
-
- To detach all 1-2-3 Add-Ins at the same time, you must:
-
- 1. Select ALT+F10 to display the 1-2-3 Add-In Manager menu.
-
- 2. Select Clear.
-
- There is no confirmation step. 1-2-3 frees the entire area of
- main memory occupied by the previously attached add-ins.
-
- Autoloading 123_SEEK from 1-2-3
-
- The Add-In Manager can automatically load up to eight add-in
- applications when you start a 1-2-3 session. The Add-In Manager
- can also automatically invoke any one of the add-ins.
-
- To automatically load 123_SEEK, cancel the autoload, or save the
- choices in the autoload configuration file (ADN.CFG), use the
- Add-In Manager Setup menu options. Display the Setup menu by
- pressing ALT+F10 and select Setup.
-
- To autoload 123_SEEK, you must:
-
- 1. Select Set.
-
- 2. Select a number between 1 and 8 for 123_SEEK.
-
- 3. Select 123_SEEK from the list of add-ins in the start-up
- directory (files with the extension .ADN) that appears in the
- control panel.
-
- The add-in must reside in the same directory that 1-2-3 is loaded
- from.
-
- 1 2 3 _ S E E K Page 7 8.88
-
-
- 4. Select Yes to automatically invoke 123_SEEK at start-up time,
- or No not to automatically invoke 123_SEEK.
-
- Only one add-in can be automatically invoked. If the add-in is
- currently not attached, the Add-In Manager attaches it at this
- time.
-
- 5. Select a function key ALT+F7 through ALT+F9 that is still
- available, or select No key.
-
- If none of these function keys are available, the Add-In Manager
- skips this step and returns to the Setup menu.
-
- If you select No key, 123_SEEK must be invoked from the Invoke
- menu. If you have assigned applications to all of the function
- keys, the Add-In Manager does not display the function key menu
- choices.
-
- To cancel 123_SEEK autoload, at the Setup menu you must:
-
- 1. Select Cancel.
-
- The Add-In Manager lists the numbers 1 through 8 to represent the
- add-ins configured for autoloading.
-
- 2. Select the number of 123_SEEK.
-
- This also immediately detaches 123_SEEK.
-
- After you have specified to autoload, remove from autoloading, or
- automatically invoke, you need to save these changes in the
- configuration file (ADN.CFG). To save the changes in the
- configuration file, at the Setup menu you must:
-
- Select Update
-
- This saves the changes in the configuration file (ADN.CFG).
- ADN.CFG needs to be in the start-up directory.

- USING 123_SEEK
- ____________________
-
-
- Now that you have completed all of that, we are ready for what
- this is really all about. Using 123_SEEK.
-

- INVOKING 123_SEEK FROM A MACRO
-
- To invoke 123_SEEK from a macro you must place either of
- the following command sequences into your macro:
-
- Method 1:
- {APP4}
- I123_SEEK~
-
- {APP4} is the command for Alt-F10. I is for Inovke
- from the Add-In Manager Menu.
-
- Method 2:
- {APPx}
-
- The 'x' in {APPx} is either 1, 2, or 3. These are
- the codes for Alt-F7, Alt-F8, or Alt-F9 respectively.
- You may use this method only if you assigned 123_SEEK
- to a function key when it was attached.
-
- After placing these commands in your macro you can then use any
- 123_SEEK menu option by coding them exactly as you would for
- any other 1-2-3 menu.
-
-
-
- We wish you the best and hope you enjoy using 123_SEEK.
- Remember, only by your support will we be able to continue to
- produce fine products like 123-SEEK for you.
