- Timo Salmi KERMit release 2.4 TSKERM24 includes batches, scripts and keypads
- * * **** * *
- for applying MSKermit version 2.32A and 3.00 which was released in January
- 1990. MSKermit copyright (c) is by Columbia University in the City of New
- York.
-
- To simplify things I streamlined this package in update TSKERM23 by excluding
- all explicit support for MSKermit versions earlier than 2.32A. Most of the
- tools probably still are compatible with MSKermit versions through 2.30-2.32,
- but I have done nothing to check this out. Note that TSKERM utilities are
- incompatible with MSKermit versions earlier than 2.30 expect partially to
- version 2.29C. For additional information of later versions of TSKERM please
- see TSKERM.NWS.
-
-
- MSE.BAT (Ver. 1.9) Boot MSKermit, colors, log boots
- ==================
-
- This is a selective batch file for booting MSKermit with alternative
- keyboards. Just write MSE for the options. MSE.BAT changes screen colors
- provided you have Norton's screen attributes sa.com or sa.exe utility. If you
- do not, see the instructions within MSE.BAT. The batch invokes green text.
- Easily customized. MSE also keeps a log of its usage utilizing TIMELOG.EXE
- program. For more information on TIMELOG.EXE apply the stand-alone command
- TIMELOG ?
-
-
- MSK.BAT (Ver. 1.9) Selective boot of MSKermit 2.32A and 3.00
- ==================
-
- A batch file for executing MSKermit 2.32A or 3.00, and selecting your
- preferred keypad layout. Before using this batch file you must rename or copy
- your KERMIT.EXE to MSK232A.EXE. The batch assumes that you have the files in
- A:\ but this is easily changed by a systematic replace with any editor.
- Notice that MSK works whatever your default directory.
-
- To start for the first time just enter MSK or MSK ?, and follow the
- instructions.
-
- As an alternative to using MSK.BAT you can, of course, directly select the
- init file with the -F option provided by MSKermit 2.30+. (See MSKermit's own
- documents for more information on the -F option.)
-
-
- MSZ.BAT (Ver. 1.6) Boot MSKermit and log the call
- ==================
-
- This is what I apply on my laptop to invoke MsKermit 2.32A. To invoke
- MsKermit 3.00 I use MSZ30.BAT. The batch is relatively simple, and includes
- the timelogging facility. In my own use I usually apply MSZ.BAT when calling
- VAX/VMS, and Procomm Plus or Telix when calling bulletin boards. When using
- my 386, I most often use MSE 6.
-
-
- MSK232AT.INI and MSK300AT.INI VT102 keyboards for an AT or 386
- =============================
-
- This is an enhanced VT102 keyboard definition file. It includes screen
- roll-back, and extra key definitions familiar to Procomm users. These extra
- features and their key definitions are given below after the keypad. The
- VT102 keyboard layout can be seen below. The keyboard definition supports the
- Scandinavian characters. These are easily changed into German or other
- international character sets. To omit them, comment the relevant lines away
- from MSK232AT.INI. They should be easy to locate.

- =============================
-
- This is the Zenith Z-181 portable VT102 keypad in originally in an older
- MSK230KP.INI. MSK232ZN is very similar. Simulates more or less the Facit
- keypad on a laptop. It is also applicable to the standard PC/XT and some AT
- keypads without a need to modify.

- MSK230QL.INI VT102 keypad simulating QL QCODE
- ============
-
- This is Zenith VT102 keypad in MSK230QL.INI. It is nearly compatible with
- Sinclair QCODE VT52 keypad layout. This is, of course, only for a user who
- might prefer this curious layout. I no longer use this myself, but I used to
- when I was still using my QL home computer way back then.

- TIMELOG For logging program usage
- =======
-
- An extract from TSUTILxx.ARC.
- Usage: TIMELOG your text >>path\program.log
- program call
- TIMELOG >>path\program.log
- Timelog is a program that can be used for keeping a log of your calls of other
- programs. Say, for example, that you want to log your usage of program.exe.
- What you do is give the commands shown above (you may want to put them in a
- .bat batch file).
- The output in program.log will be something like:
- Testing Sa130888 10:59:28 10:59:47
- Testing again Sa130888 10:59:58 11:00:19
- depending on the text you give in the first call.
- The elapsed times are not present, but they can be augmented by applying
- a separate program PCPFON.EXE on program.log. It is available in TSPFONxx.ARC.
- Technical notes. Timelog has two modes.
- 1) Text-mode: Invoked when there is text in the call. Skips to a new line, and
- writes the text, the date and the time.
- 2) Time-mode: Invoked when there is no text in the call. Stays on the same
- line, and writes the time.
- Thus no harm (other than forgoing the possibility of calculating the elapsed
- time) is caused if you forget the terminating timelog call. (Version 1.0
- confused the lines in that case.)
- For an example of the usage in a batch file see MSZ.BAT.
- You should notice that if you edit the program.log file, editors tend to
- augment an ascii 26 at the end of of the file. This means that any new lines
- added by timelog |text| >>program.log will not be visible e.g. if you give the
- MsDos command "type program.log". This is a feature (and a problem) of MsDos,
- not the timelog.exe program. (An advanced user can circumvent this problem by
- a clever use of filters.)

- release 1.0. The layout of the MSK230KP.INI keyboard has been slightly altered
- (num - and num * have changed places), and Home, End, PgUp, and PgDn have been
- inactivated to prevent unintentional scrolling in using VT102 emulation in
- full screen editing. Furthermore, MSK.BAT has been tested also on a hard disk
- configuration.
-
- Releases 1.3-1.5:
- The method in MSK.BAT invoking the keyboard driver has been made less
- complicated. The usage of MSK.BAT remains, however, exactly the same as
- before.
- The old keyboard drivers MSK230xx.INI have been tested for the newly
- released (1-Jul-1988) MSKermit version 2.31. No changes where needed.
- A new keyboard driver MSK231AT.INI has been added. It has the same standard
- VT102 keyboard layout as MSK230AT.INI. In addition it has a number of special
- keys in a layout, which is familiar to Procomm users. The layout of the
- special keys can be seen from the comments in MSK231AT.INI. There are more
- comments in MSK231AT.INI than the other driver files, and thus it is the most
- instructive for learning about MSKermit keyboard construction.
-
- Release 1.6:
- A new keyboard driver MSK231ZN.INI has been added for Zenith Z-181 laptop.
- It is probably suitably for any XT, but I have not tested it but on my laptop.
- Screen rollback has been corrected in MSK231AT after testing it on an
- Osborne AT06. The .bat batch files have been updated accordingly.
-
- Release 1.7:
- The Batches have been adjusted to reflect the release of MSKermit version
- 2.32 in December 1988.
-
- Releases 1.8-1.9:
- New keyboard drivers MSK232AT.INI and MSK232ZN.INI have been added. If you
- are using MSKermit 2.32, and the standard AT keyboard, this is your best bet.
- If you are using Dos version 3.3 you may experience problems in the drivers.
- This is due to incompatibilies between MSKermit and Dos 3.3, not the drivers
- themselves. For more details see the comments in MSK232AT.INI.
-
- Release 2.0: Stylistic changes. The batches are for MSKermit 2.32A.
-
- Release 2.1: Added the automatic file transfer scripts to the package. See
- TSKERM.NWS, and the comments in the scripts, for more information.
-
- Release 2.2 and later:
- See the separate file TSKERM.NWS.
