-
- This program shows how fast this computer is operating.
- The program displays the speed in two ways: Relative to an IBM
- PC or XT running at the standard 4.77 MHz (so 2x means twice as
- fast as an IBM PC or XT) and as the equivalent clock rate on an
- IBM AT (so 6 MHz means the same speed as a 6 MHz IBM AT).
-
- An IBM AT running at 6 MHz performs this test about 3.0
- times as fast as an IBM PC or XT. Therefore the results for an
- IBM AT running at 6 MHz would be '6 MHz' and '3.0x'. The
- results for a standard IBM PC or XT would be '2.0 MHz' (since
- 6 MHz divided by 3.0 is 2.0 MHz) and '1.0x'.
-
- Unlike the widely-quoted Norton speed test which gives an
- an unrealistic (and erratic) reading of 5.7x for a 6 MHz IBM AT
- the Landmark test gives a reading of 3.0x which accurately
- reflects the relative speed of a 6 MHz AT vis-a-vis a 4.77 MHz
- PC or XT on typical computational activities. The algorithm
- used for the test involves no disk I/O; the use of a math
- coprocessor does not (and should not) affect the results; the
- number of wait states does (and should) affect the results.
