- WELCOME TO GANTTMAN: THE EASY PROJECT PLANNER
-
-
- Ganttman was designed by me to fill the void between typical shareware project
- planners and the commercial varieties that seem to contain over 10 disks and
- a 400 page manual. My objection to the commercial packages is twofold;
- firstly, that it takes so long to get productive and secondly, that it takes
- alot of precious disk space for an occassional project.I have made every
- attempt to make this package intuitiveand easy to use.
-
- STEP 1: COPY YOUR DOS SORT.EXE FILE INTO THE GANTTMAN DIRECTORY OR ONTO THE
- FLOPPY THAT HOLDS GANTTMAN.
-
- STEP 2: TYPE GANTTMAN AT THE DOS PROMPT
-
- THE FIRST SCREEN that you should see is the GANTTMAN Welcome. This program
- will run on both CGA and monochrome systems. Registering this package for
- the nominal amount of $10.00 gets you: a) first release of updates
- b) first input on suggestions for updates
- c) keeps me writing code
-
- After pressing any key to continue the welcome screen is replaced by the main
- menu for this program. Ganttman performs one thing at a time and will always
- return to this menu for further actions.
-
- THROUGHOUT GANTTMAN PRESSING ESC WILL MOVE YOU FROM SCREEN TO SCREEN. SHOULD
- YOU AT ANY POINT GET STUCK IN A LOOP OR VENTURE WHERE YOU DON'T WISH TO BE
- CNTL-BREAK WILL TERMINATE THE PROGRAM AND RETURN YOU SAFELY TO DOS.
-
- CREATING A GANTTCHART:
-
- To create a GANTTMAN choose option C)reate a Ganttman. The screen will flip
- to the information screen for RESPONSIBLE PARTIES. It is here where you will be
- fill the name the file that you wish to save your project to disk. It will
- not let you proceed without naming one. Choose any filename up to 8 characters
- with no extension. eg. testprog or project1 not test.xyz
-
- Gantt charts use just initials of the people involved in the project, it is
- on this screen that you can enter a persons full name and the initials that they
- will be known as throughout the project. eg. John Smith JS
-
- You are to fill in the month eg. 11 that your entire project is to start.
- Ganttman can manage up to 8 months from this month. As you practice with
- this package a few times this will become alot clearer.
-
- Complete the screen as full or as empty as you wish and again press ESC to move
- to the next screen.
-
- You are now at the heart of the program. Enter the project activity description
- eg. Install terminal cables
-
- Press the enter key to move from field to field. Enter the initials of the
- person or persons responsible for that activity eg. MW/RS is allowed.
-
- Enter the date that the project is scheduled to begin ***make sure that this
- date is not less than your project start date as defined on the previous
- screen***
-
- Enter the date that the project is scheduled to be completed *** make sure
- that this date is not more than 8 months passed the project start date as
- defined on the previous screen.
-
- Enter the cost is any involved in this activity. Any format is acceptable
- however for appearance reasons you should keep is consistant.
-
- Last has this activity been completed? Yes or No.
-
- Repeat this until this screen is complete as you wish and press ESC to
- return to the main menu.
-
- EDITING A GANTT CHART:
-
- To edit a Ganttman select E)dit a Ganttman from the main menu, specify the
- name of the file that you saved it under. Press ESC
-
- Change any and all entries on the next two screens as required, press ESC to
- continue.
-
- VIEWING A GANTT CHART:
-
- View was set up to allow you to preview you project prior to printing to
- ensure all is correct. The view screen itself is designed to allow you to
- take a SCRN Print if desired.
-
- Again, same as with edit, enter the name of the file you wish to view. Your
- project should be now visable on the screen. The Activity Bars that run
- throughout the months of your project should all be visable and correct.
- ***IF YOUR ACTIVITY BARS ARE NOT AS EXPECTED THEN RETURN TO THE EDIT SCREEN
- YOU WILL FIND THAT YOUR DATES EITHER START OR END DATES ARE NOT CORRECT***
- EG. DID YOUR ENTER A PROJECT END DATE THAT IS PRIOR TO THE PROJECT START DATE
- EG. ARE EITHER OF YOUR DATES OUT OF THE RANGE OF 8 MONTHS THAT YOU SPECIFIED
- AS A PROJECT START DATE.
-
- AFTER VIEWING THE CHART PRESS ESC TO RETURN TO MAIN MENU
-
- SORTING A GANTT CHART:
-
- BY NOW YOU MUST BE GETTING FAMILIAR WITH THE OVERALL LAYOUT OF GANTTMAN. TO
- SORT A CHART SELECT SORT FOR THE MAIN MENU. SPECIFY YOUR FILENAME TO SORT.
-
- The sort routine sorts only by project start date. Appearing on your screen
- is the unsorted file. Press ESC will return the sorted project, pressing
- ESC will save this under the same filename and return you to the main menu.
-
-
- PRINTING A GANTT CHART:
-
- Really this is the same as all the other selections in function. The print
- is designed to work on any 80 column printer that can support compressed print
- Make sure you have paper in the printer. After printing you will be returned
- automatically to the main menu.
