  9.      If you are upgrading from an earlier OverView release (prior to 
  10.      version 2.10), be sure to read the section "UPGRADING FROM 
  11.      EARLIER RELEASES" in the OV.DOC file for information on convert-
  12.      ing existing configuration files to the new format used by 
  13.      versions 2.10 and later.  Also read the "NEW FEATURES IN THIS 
  14.      VERSION" section later in this file.

  17.      This file contains information on the following topics:

  25.        changes made since version 2.10 for people upgrading from 
  26.        earlier releases.

  29.      PACKING LIST
  30.  
  31.      OverView version 2.21 is distributed electronically in a single 
  32.      archive file named OV221.ARC.  The archive contains the following 
  33.      files:

  35.          READ.ME         - This file.
  36.          OV.CFG          - Configuration file.
  37.          OV.DOC          - Documentation file.
  38.          OV.EXE          - Executable program file.
  39.          OV.HLP          - Help file.
  40.          CVTCFG.EXE      - Conversion utility for old OV.CFG files.
  41.          REGISTER.FRM    - OverView registration form.
  42.  
  43.      The program CVTCFG.EXE is included as an aid for people upgrading 
  44.      from earlier OverView versions.
  45.  
  46.      If you give OverView to others, or upload it to BBS systems, 
  47.      THANK YOU--and please remember to pass on the complete archive 
  48.      file.

  50.      If you get a version of OverView directly from Magee Enterprises, 
  51.  
  52.      the files will not be archived and can be used directly.

  55.      PRINTING THE DOCUMENT
  56.  
  57.      The documentation included in the archive is a "print image" 
  58.      file that is ready for printing on 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper.  It 
  59.      does not contain any special printer controls or characters and 
  60.      should print correctly on most printers.  The document can be 
  61.      printed with the following DOS command:
  62.  
  63.           PRINT OV.DOC
  64.  
  65.      You can also read the document "on-line" by using the DOS TYPE 
  66.      command, OverView's built-in file viewer, or another file viewing 
  67.      program.

  70.      NEW FEATURES IN VERSIONS 2.20 AND 2.21
  71.  
  72.      - The Enter key now performs a variety of additional functions:
  73.  
  74.        - In the directory tree display, it "logs in" to the directory  
  75.  
  76.          under the dir pointer (like pressing 'L' for Login).
  77.        - In the main file name display, it views the file under the   
  78.          file pointer (like Alt-V).  If the file pointer is currently 
  79.          over a directory name, you are logged in to that directory 
  80.          (like F4).
  81.        - While viewing a file, it moves down a screen (like PgDn).
  82.        - It continues to select/invoke any highlighted menu entry.

  84.      - The Directory Tree is now sorted by name.  If you've used the 
  85.        [Dir | Show Dir Tree | Write] command, you'll need to do an 
  86.        initial [... | New] to get the names sorted and then [... | 
  87.        Write] to save them that way.

  89.      - A "find file name" command has been implemented.  The '=' key 
  90.        starts a search for a matching file name in the current window 
  91.        (not a disk search).  Each character you type after '=' further 
  92.        defines the name to search for.  Refer to the topic FIND FILE 
  93.        NAME in section 5 of the documentation for more information.

  95.      - File name scrolling has been changed considerably.  In the 
  96.        past, file names only scrolled up and down by rows.  Now they 
  97.        can also scroll left and right by columns.  Left/right scrol-
  98.        ling will backup/advance one column of names at a time, while 
  99.        up/down scrolling will backup/advance one name at a time.  This 
  100.        change allows a continuous range of file names (in the current 
  101.        sort order) to be displayed in a window.  In the past, some 
  102.        files between the top left and bottom right screen corners 
  103.        would not have been displayed until the window was scrolled.  
  104.        In a related change, the file pointer will no longer wrap from 
  105.        first to last or last to first file names, although the 
  106.        Home/End keys still function.

  108.      - File names can now be displayed in either of the following 
  109.        formats:

  116.        Use the [Other | Setup Parameters | Other Options | Display 
  117.        Files as NAME    EXT] option to select the style you prefer.

  119.      - An extra level of file information can now be displayed.  There 
  120.        is now a one column full info mode (as before), a two column 
  121.        info mode (new), and a five column mode (as before).  You can 
  122.        cycle through the three modes using the Alt-I or [File | Extra 
  123.        File Info] command.  You can select whichever mode you prefer 
  124.        as a default with the [Other | Setup Parameters | Startup 
  125.        Defaults | Extra File Info] options.

  127.      - You can now select default sort options with the [Other | Setup 
  128.        Parameters | Startup Defaults | Sort Options] command.
  129.  
  130.      - You can now bypass the initial startup screen keypress wait by 
  131.        setting the [Other | Setup Parameters | Startup Defaults | 
  132.        Bypass Startup Screen Wait] option.  
  133.  
  134.      - OverView now looks for its help (OV.HLP) and configuration 
  135.        (OV.CFG) files in a directory pointed to by an environment 
  136.        variable named OVFILES.  Using this feature can shorten startup 
  137.        times and speed up access to help information, particularly 
  138.        when the current directory is a floppy disk.  Refer to the 
  139.        topic FILE SETUP in section 3 of the documentation for more 
  140.        information.

  142.      - OverView's initial display directory can now be specified on 
  143.        the command line.  The command:
  144.  
  145.             C>OV A:
  146.  
  147.        will start OverView with the initial directory set to drive A:. 
  148.  
  149.  
  150.      - The Esc key will now exit OverView from the file name display, 
  151.        without the "Quit (y/N):" or "Exit ... Return..." prompts.  
  152.        OverView will exit to the current window's drive/directory.  
  153.        The Alt-Q and Quit commands continue to operate as before.
  154.  
  155.      - The menu selection bar in pull-down submenus now warps around 
  156.        from top to bottom and bottom to top in response to the up and 
  157.        down arrow keys.
  158.  
  159.      - The Alt-K and Alt-M menu short-cuts have been exchanged to be a 
  160.        better mnemonic aid.  Alt-K is now for (K)opy-Tagged, and Alt-M 
  161.        is now Move-Tagged.

  163.      - OverView now allows you specify multiple DOS commands wherever 
  164.        it previously allowed you to enter one command ([Xecute | DOS 
  165.        Command], User Defined Keys, Point-and-Go entries).  The 
  166.        commands must still be entered on a single line, but are 
  167.        separated by '^' characters.  For example, the following line, 
  168.        entered in response to the [Xecute | DOS Command] command would 
  169.        actually execute three commands:

  171.           CD \^DIR *.SYS^COPY CONFIG.SYS PRN
  172.  
  173.        To actually include a '^' in a command, prefix it with a '$'.

  176.     - Version 2.21 is now being marketed and distributed by Magee
