- DIRR.DOC
- By Richard A. Gautier, SRA, USAF
-
- The file DIRR.EXE is a small, but useful utility that is long in the coming.
- How many times have you wanted to copy files to a diskette from a single
- directory, but not been sure how much space was being taken up by those
- programs in that directory?
-
- Here is the answer, my freinds.....DIRR.EXE is a program that will clear,
- the screen, give you a directory of your current working directory, and
- add an extra line at the end, beneath ###### bytes free. It adds the line
- ######## bytes used.
-
- That's all this file does, but aren't you sick of sitting there with a
- calculator and adding up all those file sizes? I have included two copies of
- this file for you DOS users, one called DIRR2.EXE and one called DIRR4.EXE.
- The difference in these files is only apparent in the bytes free line. If you
- are using DOS 3.2 or less, DOS sectors your disks in 2K blocks. When it opens
- a file on your disk, it automatically opens up 2K of space, whether the file
- contains anything or not. If you have a larger version of DOS, then your disk
- may be partitioned with 4K blocks. The only way to know for sure which version
- you should run, is to do a DIR on your directory, and write down your bytes
- free line. Then run both versions of DIRR, and see which one gives you a
- correct bytes free count. That is the compatible version that you should use.
-
- I hope to include more options in the future to make it compatible with
- PC-MAGs NO.COM, and also with calls to other directories.
