TO: SHAREWARE VENDORS
FROM: Tom Vassar, author of TUTTI ABC'S and NUMBERS
1. TUTTI may be distributed in any form suitable for your operation.
Charges may be made to shareware users for your service. The
program and all associated files must be distributed together. No
files may be distributed apart from the others. The exception is
this file (VENDORS.DOC) which should not be distributed; but please
include it if you send the package to other vendors.
2. I have archived all files with LHARC in sizes that will be suitable
for the "lowest common denominator" disk size--360K. However, they
may be distributed with any manner of archiving you prefer and in
any size. The user manual (TUTTI.DOC) instructs the user to
unarchive all files following instructions provided by the vendor.
The configuration program which they will run does not unarchive
files since it does not know what archives to expect.
NOTE: For vendors who prefer to send the disks as they are, I
include a file START.BAT which gives initial instructions and
information to the user. START.BAT and USERMAN.LZH are on disk #1,
the VIDEO disk containing VGA, EGA, and CGA libraries. LHARC.EXE is
also on Disk #1. Disks #2 and #3 contain either files named
"V8-xxx.LZH" or "VOC-xxx.LZH", which are SOUND files for COVOX (and
INTERNAL SPEAKER/SOUNDJr) or SOUNDBLASTER (and PRO-AUDIO),
respectively. Disk #2 also contains the SYSTEM files (programs,
configuration files, ".bat" files, and the device-specific SOUND
commands).
3. The shareware version of TUTTI is identical to the registered
version with respect to all features, except that a shareware
information screen will be displayed in lieu of a picture for half
of the letters and numbers (following the example of ABC FUN KEYS).
Also, I felt that a child would be confused if either nothing
happened for some keys or if only an information screen was
displayed, so I have the program both display and sound the LETTER
or NUMBER. Additionally, the information screen shows a large
picture of TUTTI to capture the interest of the child. In this way,
the child can learn the alphabet; while the parent can get the
pertinent details for registering in case they have not read the
manual.
4. I am sending two versions of TUTTI: one for COVOX/INTERNAL SPEAKER/
SOUNDJR and the other for SOUNDBLASTER/PRO-AUDIO SPECTRUM. The only
difference in the two versions is in the sound files. I made two
versions in an effort to "keep things simple" for the user. You may
distribute them separately or together as you wish. The registered
version contains a set of raw sound files and adds the appropriate
headers during the install procedure; but that is complicated and,
if used, would certainly generate questions from shareware users.
NOTE that SYS-V8.LZH and SYS-VOC.LZH have files in common.
Three disks (one video and two sound) make up a complete package.
5. The shareware version of TUTTI has an additional feature that the
registered version does not--it looks first on directory C:\TUTTI
for the four "*.DAT" configuration files. This will allow a working
version of TUTTI to be distributed on CD ROM by any vendors who
wish to do so; I.E., a version which does not have to be installed
onto the hard disk. When a working version is distributed, I urge,
but do not require, that both the COVOX/INTERNAL SPEAKER and the
SOUNDBLASTER/PRO-AUDIO SPECTRUM files be on the CD ROM DISK. The
user will then copy the configuration program and the configuration
files onto C:\TUTTI and run the configuration program on drive C to
"install" the desired version of TUTTI.
6. For vendors to whom I have not sent a specific description of TUTTI
and who wish to describe the program to their customers, I include
the following list of features:
TUTTI the COMPUTER TUTOR for ABC'S and NUMBERS is an ABC
program for pre-schoolers. It has sound files for the
internal speaker as well as for SOUND MASTER (and other
COVOX devices), SOUNDBLASTER and PRO-AUDIO SPECTRUM
sound boards. Sound files include actual sounds for most
of the letters (e.g. the sound of an airplane) as well as
voice files sounding the letter and phrase. It contains
PCX libraries for VGA, EGA, and CGA.
The program operates in either a "key-banger/press any
key" mode or a "learn mode". In either mode, the user
has a wide latitude of control over what is displayed
and what is sounded and any options selected by the user
remain in effect from one TUTTI session to the next. All
options require a double key-press to enable a parent to
select options even while the child is pressing keys.
In the LEARN mode, the TUTTI program selects a letter at
random from the current letter set. Initially, the
current set is "ABC". As the child learns the letters in
the current set (gets each letter right twice in a row),
another letter is added to the set . . . until the child
knows all of the letters. The parent can override the
automatic expansion of the letter set and specify the
current letter set to be ANY set of letters. This allows
the child to practice on whatever letters are giving the
most difficulty. The program even keeps tallies of the
child's progress for each letter to aid the parent in
choosing the letter set.
Five learning levels exercise different associative
skills: in level 5, for example, the program plays the
sound byte of the selected letter, and the child must
determine and find the letter associated with the sound.
The program also features alternate pictures which can be
selected for many holidays such as HALOWEEN, CHRISTMAS,
MOTHERS' DAY, FATHERS' DAY, EASTER, JULY 4TH, ETC. Also, the
users can customize by substituting their own pictures (or
sounds).
Lower-case letters are realistically integrated into the
program in a manner that assumes the child already knows
the upper-case letters. In the REGISTERED version,
script letters are also included .
The registered version can include a parallel-port sound
module so that internal-speaker users will have "full
blown" sound when they register.
The above description is basically a list of features. Feel free
to cut out, add to, or modify the text to suit your advertising/
catalog style. For any vendors who would like pictures for their
catalog, I would be happy to oblige.
7. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements: 286 with 640K, CGA, Hard Disk with 10M
to spare. DOS 3.30. Using 30-50 buffers. Platform: DOS.
Preferred Configuration: 386 with 2M, VGA, Hard Disk as above.
DOS 5. SMARTDRIVE should be loaded. Platform: DOS.
A SOUND board is NOT required, since the internal speaker is
supported. The REGISTERED version can include a SOUND MODULE
so that internal-speaker users will have "full blown" sound
when they register.
SUPPORTED SOUND BOARDS TESTED WITH TUTTI
TUTTI supports the following (tested) sound boards:
SoundBlaster 2.0 (8-bit)
Pro-Audio Spectrum 16
Sound Master (8-bit)
SuperSound (8-bit)
TUTTI will NOT run with SoundBlaster 16.
TUTTI also supports the following parallel-port players:
Speech Thing
SoundJr
NOTE: This version of TUTTI runs on a DOS platform and uses
the "command-line players" native to the user's sound device.
NOTE: Although there is no network restriction on the SHAREWARE
version, the standard registered version will NOT WORK on networks.
8. START.BAT
This is a batch file, unarchived, on the video disk. It gives
the user instructions for un-archiving files for cases where
the vendor elects to distribute the disks exactly as I send
them. It also gives a brief description of the TUTTI program.
9. Thank you.
