  4. T-N-T has been designed to be very easy to use with a good pointing device.  In 
  5. addition to the usual Windows interface conventions, you will find the following 
  6. features:
  7.  
  8.     o    The Focus Bar.  To keep navigation of menus to a minimum, select the
  9.         attributes of interest directly from the dialog bar at the bottom by 
  10.         spinning them into focus for operations invoked by menu options.   
  11.  
  12.     o     Dialogs that permit updating or changing data can be prefilled by 
  13.         double clicking on the accompanying listbox.
  14.  
  15.     o    Graphical representations with the ability to save current selections 
  16.         as the default view.

  19. The Basics

  22. To use T-N-T for tracking scores and maintaining a football pool, you will start under 
  23. the File menu and establish the list of participants.  If required, you can change the 
  24. team names for those instances where a team moves to another city.  Double clicks will 
  25. generally move items into an edit box or add them to a list.  Most other interaction 
  26. requires only a single mouse click.   
  27.  
  28. The schedule may need to be entered.  The database provided on the evaluation copy of 
  29. this software should already have the current season's contests, however, if not, future 
  30. (or past) schedules may be entered at any time.
  31.  
  32. Once the schedule has been entered, copies of the current week's contests can be printed 
  33. for distribution to participants by selecting Weekly Schedule from the Reports menu.    
  34.  
  35. Each week the participant's predictions and game scores should be entered by accessing 
  36. the dialogs from the Edit menu option.  After scores are entered, or anytime scores are 
  37. changed, its important to allow subtotaling to complete.  Many queries rely on the 
  38. completion of this process to display accurately.

  40. To determine which teams you may decide to "pick" as winners, you may want to let the 
  41. computer make its predictions.  When the Predictions option is selected there will be 
  42. two algorithms available.  Past history is used to assign a numerical weighting to 
  43. various categories and the team that has the highest numbers in the majority of the 
  44. categories is declared the predicted winner.  
  45.  
  46. If you wish to do further analysis under the View menu.  Standings are available as they 
  47. were during the season and week in the focus bar.  An individual team's performance can 
  48. be seen by viewing a summary of their games played both at home and away, against 
  49. divisional or non divisional opponents.  The complete list of game history is shown by 
  50. default, but can be narrowed by spinning to the opponent of interest on the focus bar and 
  51. pushing the Focus Team button.  Finally, the results of participants weekly predictions 
  52. can be reviewed by selecting the Current Leaders option.

  54. Finally, to see how your predictions stand up against the computer's and other participants,
  55. you can review it with the bar charts availabe under Graphs.  The Current Week view is 
  56. intended for review against your colleagues, whereas the Season To Date graph is useful 
  57. for reviewing trends in your picks versus the computer generated predictions.

  60. Trouble Shooting
  61.  
  62. The following problems may be experienced when running the software.  
  63.  
  64.     o     T-N-T makes extensive use of VBX controls which are memory intensive.
  65.         If fonts grow larger or other items appear to be drawing incorrectly 
  66.         or out of proportion, it may be because of a shortage of memory.  This 
  67.         can be corrected by closing windows within T-N-T or other Windows 
  68.         applications.

  70.     o    In the event of a power outage or some other abnormal end while running 
  71.         T-N-T, one or more of the database or indexes may become corrupt.  This 
  72.         condition will usuallly appear at start up immediately after such a 
  73.         disruption resulting in an error message similar to the following:

  75.             "Error #:  -xx  Opening File    File Name: PLPKPOF.DBF
  76.         
  77.         This could also occur if another application has the file open concurrently.  
  78.         If you feel that the indexes are damaged, try running TNTRENDX from a DOS 
  79.         prompt and it may repair the databases.  Registered users will certainly 
  80.         receive any assistance required to correct or replace the corrupt database.
