  5.    In  early June 1994 the Shareware  product CRUSH 1.0 was released, now  at
  6.    version   1.8.   This  program  works  with  your  existing  archiver   to
  7.    dramatically  improve  compression.  In  a block test of  128  directories
  8.    containing 2349 wordprocessing files (total 17 Megabytes), CRUSH generated
  9.    the  following performance figures  (each directory was compressed to  its
  10.    own archive file):

  23.    All  archivers were run with  maximum compression, except CRUSH which  was
  24.    set  to  minimum. The figures  for Stacker and DoubleSpace  are  generally
  25.    quoted  performance  figures  for  comparison, not test results.  All  the
  26.    figures  above  quote the compression  ratio in terms of disk  space  used
  27.    rather  than  actual file sizes  (8k cluster assumed) to allow  comparison
  28.    with  Stacker  4.0.  This  does  not significantly effect  the  comparison
  29.    between the other archivers.

  31.    CRUSH  will  work with PKZIP, ARJ,  LHA, ZOO, UC2 and HA with very  little
  32.    overhead  in time. CRUSH also  allows the user to perform more  convenient
  33.    archiving operations than these programs offer when used alone.
