  6. The Black Squadron ][ contains all the same patches as the previous Black 
  7. Squadron Upgrade plus support for Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing.  Also, all 
  8. craft now carry more missiles.
  9.  
  10. The Storyline:  
  11.      With the Imperial Advanced TiE Fighters introduction into the war 
  12. against the Empire, the Rebellions began to suffer major defeats.  Under 
  13. the orders of Mon Mothma, the Rebellion assigned many of its greatest techs 
  14. to work on prototypes of the already successful X-Wing, A-Wing, and Y-Wing 
  15. starfighters.  The result?  Black Squadron.
  16.      The improved rebel starfighters have been outfitted with state of the
  17. art Mon Calamari technology which includes higher output sublight drives, 
  18. more powerful shields, increased acceleration/deceleration control and more
  19. missile bays.
  20. With these new starfighters, the Rebellion prepares to mount a great assault
  21. against the Empire....

  23. Installation: 
  24.      To install the upgraded fighters, copy the files "FLIGHT.BLK" and 
  25.      "BFLIGHT.BLK"to your X-Wing Directory.  Then change to your X-Wing 
  26.      directory and type the following DOS commands:

  28.      REN FLIGHT.OVL FLIGHT.BAK
  29.      REN FLIGHT.BLK FLIGHT.OVL
  30.      REN BFLIGHT.OVL BFLIGHT.BAK
  31.      REN BFLIGHT.BLK BFLIGHT.OVL

  33.      Simple, huh?  If you ever wish to abandon the technology available to
  34.      you and change back to the original starfighters, use the following
  35.      DOS commands in your X-Wing directory:

  38.      REN FLIGHT.BAK FLIGHT.OVL
  39.      REN BFLIGHT.OVL BFLIGHT.BLK

  63. Notes:  The X-Wing, A-Wing and B-Wing do have the same enhanced engines, but 
  64.         completely different armament to offset their equal speed.  Also, the 
  65.         Y-Wing is faster than all other enhanced fighters at slow speed because 
  66.         of a special system that drains excess energy from its ion cannons and
  67.         places this energy into its sublight drive.  When the ion cannons
  68.         are charging at maximum power, more power for speed is available.

  70. Combat Tactics and General Info:  
  71.      This upgrade was meant to help players complete difficult missions in
  72. which "If I just had more speed I could've gotten that Interceptor before
  73. he iced my shuttle!" or "If I only had a little shields left that Star
  74. Destroyer would've been toast!" are common.  While playing the game using
  75. the Black Squadron Upgrade, I noticed that putting all power from lasers
  76. and shields into engines acted like afterburners in the Wing Commanders.
  77. This I thought was neat because the only thing I missed from Wing 
  78. Commander that was not in X-Wing was the ability to use the afterburners 
  79. when things looked bad.  Its a nice feeling to see those TiE Interceptors
  80. being left in the dust for a change, heh.  Its also nice to have Full
  81. Lasers and Shields while going almost your normal speed.  And if those
  82. Transports are just moving to slow, setting your power to 1/3 or stopping
  83. for a sec works fine.  Imagine the face of a TiE pilot when he sees your
  84. hog of a Y-Wing slowing down for an easy Transport kill and then taking 
  85. off at twice the TiE's speed.
  86.      The shields were changed, but not thouroughly tested.  I took over 20
  87. laser blasts from 3 wings of TiE's with full shields.  This was done while at
  88. a full stop with full shields but without managing shields by using the "S" 
  89. or "'" keys.  Who knows how much damage you could take if you operated your
  90. shields well?
  91.      To those who may be offended by this upgrade:  Remember, you don't have
  92. to use it if you don't want to!  Some people may appreciate the extra help
  93. that the upgrade might offer.  If you think its cheating, thats fine, but
  94. don't sit their and complain that are other people are using it and you're not.
