USE OF A TABLE OF CONTENTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This file is set up as an example of how a table of contents may be used.
Notice that the pages are numbered, whereas in the first file ("The Journal")
no page numbers appeared. The choice of whether or not to use a table of
contents and page numbers, is yours. Numbering of pages occurs automatically
when the text file is properly coded. Coding is easy and quick.
After you have found the page you want, you may return to the table of con-
tents at any time by pressing the 'Home' key. Then, locate your next topic by
using the page-down (PgDn) key. For very long documents, holding the
page-down key will cause the pages to scroll quickly. If you pass the page
you want, it is a simple matter to use the page-up (PgUp) key to find your
page. Once you become accustomed to this, you will find it to be quicker and
easier than paging through a printed book or magazine.
E-PUBLISHING NEWSLETTERS, BOOKS, MAGAZINES, ETC.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The "Daily News" masthead is an example of the many titles included with the
registered copy of the program. Its modules, which are included in these
files, are named NEWS.DEB and NEWS.DET. The XL programs may be used for many
forms of e-publishing (electronic publishing), including e-magazines,
e-catalogs, e-books, e-brochures, and more. Later in this demo you will see
the use of XL2001 for multicolored screens, and you will also see how you can
easily make your own "book covers," page titles and sub-titles. Custom-made
book covers, headings and mastheads are also available from Rexxcom Systems.
* CHANGING FILES WITH FUNCTION KEYS *
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At any time, you may press F5 to return to the first file, or F6 to move to
the third file. Later, after you exit the demo, type TYPE RUNME.BAT + "Enter"
to look at the batch file which is used for this particular display. This
will give you an idea of how to set up your own batch file to display one or
more book, newsletter, or magazine files. When you examine RUNME.BAT, you
will see not only the way it is set up to display "The Journal" and "Daily
News," but also the way it switches from XL-2000.EXE to XL-2001.EXE after the
user presses either F6 or Esc., and how it later switches to the Art-Deco text
font.
EXPLANATION OF COMMANDS IN RUNME.BAT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HQSW.COM is the program which permits the use of attractive lettering used in
the mastheads, and the words "LIKE THIS!" which you saw in the first file.
EGA.COM and VGA.COM are programs which set the video mode to its original
value after the display is ended. HQSW2.COM and HQSW3.COM are used to make
the Art-Deco and Old English text which you will see later in the demonstra-
tion. There are no TSR (memory resident) programs in use.
