  2. UBC Researchers Discover Parking Gene!

  5. In a startling breakthrough, that has amazed the international gene
  6. jockey community, a University of British Columbia scientist has
  7. identified the human gene that controls the parking of motor
  8. vehicles.
  9.  
  10. Says Dr. Arnold Dent of the UBC PharmoGenetics lab, normal people who
  11. park their cars "front-in" so to speak have the usual "forward"
  12. parking gene, but about 3% of the population have a mutant "back-in
  13. gene", which causes so much mayhem in parking lots over the world.

  15. "No one would be concerned about this genetic aberration if it were
  16. not for the fact that carriers of this gene CANNOT PARK BACKWARDS,
  17. but are compelled by their genetic destiny to try anyway!"  Dr. Dent
  18. explained.  "At any parkade these poor afflicted drivers can be seen
  19. blundering about in reverse, stalling traffic for hours."

  21. Dr. Dent reveals that exhaustive studies by his team have found no
  22. correlation with the "Back-in Parking Gene" and gender, sexual
  23. preference, age, race, handedness, or socio-economic level.  However,
  24. some observers have found a relationship between the mutant gene and
  25. drivers of Volvos, Miatas, and Mercedes Benzes.

  27. At first, says Dr. Dent, it was postulated the aberrant back-in
  28. parking was a learned behaviour from British driving instructors,
  29. known for driving on the wrong side of the road and very slowly in
  30. the fast lane.

  32. Dr. Dent is writing grant proposals for funding to further study
  33. parking genetics, and has applied for patents on the detection and
  34. treatment of "Parkomaniacs", as cruel people call them.

  36. "Hopefully," says Dr. Dent, "we can raise public consciousness so
  37. that these innocent people can be identified and treated in our
  38. schools and prisons at an early age before they harm themselves or
  39. others.  Job placement, genetic counselling and anti-discrimination
  40. programs are desperately needed as well."
