Hello All!,
Welcome to the national listing for Police BBS's. I have intentionally
left out BBS's that are closed systems, whether they were police operated and/
or supported or not. If the sysop of such a system reads this, and would like
to have their system listed, then they will have to open their boards for
access by new callers (not particularly by the general public, but you must
allow new users to log on). I have nothing against closed systems, but if you
run a closed system, then you have a certain group that your trying to reach,
and you must handle your own advertising.
As for all other sysop's, please review this list, and if your
BBS is listed either incorrectly, or as being unconfirmed, or if your
system is not listed, then please leave me a message at The Hot Pursuit
BBS (713-722-7070), or at the Sheriffs OnLine Information Service BBS
(408-741-8012) and I will make the necessary corrections/additions as
required. Also, I can be reached thru the "Doughnut Shop" conference, on
the NLEMS echo, available on these systems. Or you can E-Mail me at FIDO
address 1:109/805.
I am a retired police officer, and am supporting my system (and Ma
Bell) by working at a REAL job <GR>, and I can only confirm new systems on
the weekends. So it may take me a month or more to confirm each and every one.
I generally call twice, the first time to get logged on, and the second
time to confirm that the Sysop wants to be listed. So please, if your system
is on the unconfirmed list, or you want your system added, be on the lookout
for my name, and message.
******************************************************************************
!!!!!!!! VERY IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!
Due to the cost of confirming and maintaining the list ($400 to $600
a month just in long distance bills alone! Plus about 15 hours of my time
every month). ANY Sysop's that DO NOT reply in some fashion will be deleted
from the unconfirmed list. I am an understanding soul, and am willing to
call back for a total of 4 calls, but if I get NO REPLIES by the fourth try,
I will have no choice but to delete the system in question. I WILL NOT just
go ahead and add your system to the list, if you can't find the time, within
a 2 month period, to respond to my queries ON YOUR system, then I won't be
able to find the time to add your system to my list.
This list is compiled and maintained by me, for use by police officers, I do
ALL confirmations, additions, & deletions by hand. I don't have any whiz-bang
utility that does it automatically, and I don't have time to write one. If
you want to be listed, THEN SAY SO, I don't have the time or the funds to
play some little mindless game with anyone.
Sorry if this sounds like I'm some sort of stuckup snobbish idiot, but I can't
afford to keep calling back week after week to try and persuade ANYONE that
this list works. If you don't want to be listed, then don't reply, and I'll
guarantee that you won't be.
******************************************************************************
The listing is comprised of BBS's that I have been informed of,
and from an old listing that I had, and from several lists that I have been
given.
If you NET-MAIL me, or one of the other systems with info for me,
please include the following:
1) FULL system name (no abbreviations)
2) ALL phone numbers (for multi line systems)
3) Sysop's full name (first & last name)
4) whether the system is open to everyone, or is for police only
5) what nets are carried by the system (Wildnet, Internet, NLEMS, etc.)
6) what types of files does the system carry (gen. interest, police, etc)
7) maximum baud rate supported
8) what Department or Organisation (if any) is supporting the system
9) what (if any) E-Mail address(s) do you have (ie. FIDO, RIME, POLICEnet)
THANKS LIST:
Special thanks goes to Chris Jones from the Hot Pursuit BBS,
to everybody that pointed out errors, and duplications in the list,
and to all of the Sysop's that took the time to NET-MAIL me their
information.
That is about it, I hope the listing is of assistance to all.
Until next time, KEEP YOUR HEADS DOWN, & YOUR VESTS ON!!
George Dodson, D.C. Police Dept. (Retired)
