  3. There are a few things you should be aware of before
  4. using FireFighter.
  5.  
  6. When entering the Roster files you must use certain 
  7. naming conventions. Please read the FireRost.doc
  8. and New.txt files.  If you are having any problems with
  9. the program please re-read these two files carefully.  
  10.  
  11. The fire report does not take the place of the Provincial
  12. or State Fire report. This is a quick report for your own
  13. Departments use and information.
  14.  
  15. Make sure you have the file Help.cfg in the same directory 
  16. FF.exe is in.
  17.  
  18. If you are paid by the incident rather than by the hour
  19. start FireFighter at the dos prompt with ff/c. 
  20.  
  21. The program will automatically Capitalize for you.
  22. This means you can use upper or lower caps and have the
  23. program change everything for you or you can Capitalize as
  24. you want.
  25.  
  26. The only place it will not capitalize for you is in the
  27. comment sections of your reports and when you Edit a file.
  28.  
  29. When entering dates you must use the format: MM-DD-YYYY
  30. ie: 06-12-1993
  31.  
  32. If you have an unregistered version:
  33.  
  34. When you start up the program by typing FF at the DOS prompt
  35. you will find some Sample records to experiment with.
  36.  
  37. You will have to DELETE or RENAME all these records BEFORE
  38. you start to Enter any of your own.
  39.  
  40. These records are:
  41.  
  42. Practice.rpt ------ Practice Reports
  43. Fireinf.rpt  ------ Fire Reports
  44. Maint.rpt    ------ Maintenance Records
  45. Roster.dat   ------ Roster Records
  46. Roster.ndx   ------ Index of Roster Records
  47. Case2.rpt    ------ Training Records
  48. Comment.dat  ------ Comment records (new in version 1.35+)

  50. If you want to keep these records as Samples then just run
  51. Sample.bat and it will rename the files for you.

  54. If you want to Delete these files then run GetRid.bat
  55. This batch file will delete the proper files so that you can
  56. start entering information.

  59. Important:
  60.  
  61. Please remember if you have duplicate names(last/first) then
  62. you must enter one name differently than the other. 
  63. eg: John Baker, J. Baker, Jack Baker, etc.
  64.  
  65. Make sure your spelling is correct as this could cause a
  66. problem with finding records later on.
  67.  
  68. Be sure to fill the record using the same format as the
  69. Sample records.
  70.  
  71. Please read the  file FIREROST.DOC and NEW.TXT!
  72.  
  73. Get all your records entered the way you like and after you
  74. order the Registered version of this program, you can copy the
  75. Registered Version right over the Unregistered Version.
  76.  
  77. Make a Backup copy of your directory first in case of
  78. mistakes.
  79.  
  80. If you are using a Floppy disk A: or B: then make a diskcopy
  81. of the program before using it.
  82.  
  83. Then you will have a spare copy if anything goes wrong.
  84.  
  85. The FireFighter program will continue to be expanded and made as easy to work
  86. with as possible.
