  21. 1)  Program Description
  22. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  23. If you are serious about Multimedia,
  24.     Add CyberManager to your production team !

  26. CyberManager 2.0 is an easy to use Multimedia Viewer/Player/Manager for 
  27. Windows.  Image formats supported are: BMP, GIF, TIFF, TARGA, PCX, JPG, WMF,
  28. WPG, DCX, EPS, IMG, ICO, and RLE.  Audio, Video, and Animation formats
  29. supported are: AVI (Video for Windows), FLC/FLI (animations), WAV (audio),
  30. MIDI (music), and RMI (music).

  32. Management features include Move, Copy, Delete, Rename,
  33. Create/Delete/Rename Directories, Print, Save to other formats,
  34. disk labeling, and attribute control.  Search files by extension or User
  35. input.  On-Screen Volume Control.  Automatic and Manual AutoPLAY.
  36. View and play files at full-size or within the manager's window.

  44. 2)  Minimum Hardware/Software Requirements
  45. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  46. Hardware:
  47. 1. At least 4MB RAM
  48. 2. 486-25 Mhz or greater
  49. 3. 640x480, 256 color or better Video Display
  50. 4. Optional: Sound Card or PC Speaker Driver
  51.  
  52. Software:
  53. 1. Windows 3.1x running in Enhanced mode.
  54. 2. VBRUN300.DLL
  55. 3. Video for Windows Version 1.1 (VFW) runtime (for AVI playback)
  56. 4. Optional:  Sound Card or PC speaker driver
  57.  
  58. All of these files can be found on most BBS forums.

  60. To find VBRUN300.DLL:
  61. If VBRUN300.DLL is not included, browse/search your favorite BBS for VBRUN3.ZIP
  62. or VBRUN300.ZIP.

  64. To find Video for Windows Runtime:
  65. Browse/search your favorite BBS for VFWRUN.ZIP or VFW11A.ZIP.

  67. Optionally: If you have a sound card you already have the MCI drivers for WAV
  68. playback.  (These come with your sound card)  If you don't have a sound card
  69. you can download a PC Speaker WAV driver for Windows from your favorite BBS.

  72. Browse/search your favorite BBS for SPEAK.EXE or SPEAKR.ZIP

  75. 3)  Video for Windows (VFW) Performance Problems
  76. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  77. If you are experiencing a loss of quality in your video playback you might
  78. want to try one or both of the following possible fixes:
  79.  
  80. 1. If your computer has only 4 Megabytes of memory, we strongly suggest
  81.    you install an additional 4 Megabytes (or more) of memory. Almost any
  82.    amount of additional memory will significantly increase the performance
  83.    of all applications on your system.
  84.  
  85. 2. If you experience a loss of quality in playing AVI's from a CD-ROM,
  86.    try increasing the amount of buffer memory that your CD-ROM driver uses.
  87.    Computers communicate with the CD-ROM drive through the Microsoft MSCDEX
  88.    driver. Try adding /M:32 to the MSCDEX entry in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  89.    See your CD-ROM documentation for more information.

  92. 4)  Video Display Problems
  93. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  94. 1. If you are having problems playing a FLC or FLI animation file, try
  95.    installing the standard Windows VGA driver.  If animations play correctly,
  96.    you will need to get updated drivers for your video card. Contact your
  97.    video card manufacturer for more information. You may also be able to get
  98.    updated drivers from a CompuServe forum managed by your video card
  99.    manufacturer or from the Microsoft forum.
  100.  
  101. 2. Some RLE compressed AVI's will not play correctly unless they are played
  102.    at full size. 
  103.  
  104. 3. ATI video boards
  105.    CyberManager has experienced incompatibility problems with some features
  106.    of the ATI video system.  This video board comes with a number of popular
  107.    systems including most Gateway 2000 machines.  The problem is not with
  108.    the video board itself but with the video driver software.  Try any or
  109.    all of the following suggestions to remedy the problem.
  110.  
  111.  A) Run the ATI Control Panel application that comes with your video card.  
  112.        a) Ensure that you are running in the 256 color mode.
  113.        b) Click Advanced Features and ensure that the 256 Color Palette
  114.           option is turned ON.  See the ATI documentation for more
  115.           information.
  116.  
  117.  B) From the Windows Setup application, choose a different video driver
  118.     such as the 8514/a driver.
  119.  
  120.  C) Versions of ATI's video accelerators prior to 2.1 do not work well with
  121.     Video for Windows version 1.1. Installing the accelerator software after
  122.     installing Video for Windows can overwrite Video for Windows version 1.1 
  123.     components with components from the previous version.
  124.     Avoid installing any version of the video accelerator unless it is
  125.     specifically noted to be compatible with Video for Windows version 1.1.
  126.  
  127. The vidc.rlec=ativdacc.drv entry in the [installable compressors] section
  128. of the SYSTEM.INI file can cause problems when playing large RLE-compressed
  129. movies. Remove this entry from the SYSTEM.INI file.
  130.

  134. 5)  Audio Problems and WAV File Messages
  135. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  136. We strongly recommend the use of an MPC-compatible sound card in order to
  137. play sounds and music. You may also use a speaker driver however, a speaker
  138. driver will not play MID or RMI music files. You can download a PC speaker
  139. driver for Windows from your favorite BBS.
  140.  
  141. To find a PC Speaker Driver:
  142. Browse/search your favorite BBS for SPEAK.EXE or SPEAKR.ZIP and follow the
  143. installation instructions
  144.  
  145. If you don't hear any sound:
  146.  
  147. 1. Make sure your sound card's software volume controls are set to an
  148.    audible level.
  149.  
  150. 2. Make sure that the volume for your speakers is set to an audible level.
  151.  
  152. 3. Make sure that CyberManager's on-screen volume control is set to an
  153.    audible level (about half way up on the slider).
  154.  
  155. 4. If you still don't hear any sound, your sound card may be set up 
  156.    incorrectly.  Check to see that the audio driver that came with your 
  157.    sound card is installed correctly and, if necessary, reinstall it.  
  158.    Also check your IRQ and DMA settings and insure that they don't conflict 
  159.    with other hardware such as a mouse or modem. See the documentation that 
  160.    came with your sound card for more information.
  161.

  163. 6)  "Out of Memory" Problems
  164. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  165. All of your applications use some of your computer's memory. Performance 
  166. will be degraded if your system doesn't have enough free memory.  If you 
  167. receive an Out-Of-Memory error, try the following:
  168.  
  169. 1. Close all unnecessary applications.
  170.  
  171. 2. Some applications load files in memory but don't remove them after 
  172.    being closed.  If you've closed all unnecessary applications and are
  173.    still having memory problems, try closing out of Windows and restarting.
  174.  
  175. 3. If you are running Windows in Enhanced mode (the default mode if you 
  176.    are running Windows on a 386 or better machine), create a permanent swap 
  177.    file on your hard disk.  Refer to your Windows documentation for more 
  178.    information.
  179.

  181. 7)  Miscellaneous Problems
  182. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  183. Occasionally, clicking on a directory folder will cause the cursor to turn
  184. into an hourglass and the directory folder won't open. When this happens,
  185. double-click on the directory folder with the hourglass cursor or select 
  186. another directory. This should clear-up the problem.

  189. 8)  Running on Windows NT
  190. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  191. Microsoft Windows NT is incompatible with the Microsoft Video for Windows 
  192. drivers which CyberManager 2.0 uses.  You will need to use CyberManager 
  193. 2.0 on a machine with a Windows 3.1x system.
