  4. Introduction: What is CardBook?
  5. -------------------------------
  6. CardBook was created out of a need --- "I have some good
  7. information in my cardfile. How do I get a nice printout
  8. that I can carry in my wallet?"
  9.  
  10. Microsoft Windows includes an applet called Cardfile which
  11. lets users create some kind of an electronic Rolodex file
  12. where the user can store various kinds of information like
  13. telephone numbers, addresses, recipes, etc. However,
  14. printing from this program leaves much to be desired.
  15.  
  16. CardBook is a Windows program that will open your cardfile
  17. data and print a small book as wide as a folded dollar bill
  18. but slightly taller. This ensures that this book will fit in
  19. your wallet, as a personal phone book for example.
  20.  
  21. The pages of the book are printed on all sides and can
  22. easily be stapled at the center. Page numbers are printed
  23. and records are separated by blank lines.

  25. CardBook comes complete with a Help file. Context-sensitive
  26. help is available just by highlighting an item and pressing
  27. F1. Of course, because of the simplicity of the program,
  28. help may never be needed.

  30. This shareware version of CardBook is in no way crippled or
  31. made dysfunctional. The only difference between the
  32. unregistered and the registered versions is the
  33. "Unregistered Version Reminder" that appears any time an
  34. unregistered version tries to do a printing routine.

  37. ----------
  38. As any software user should know by now, computer programs
  39. are very complicated products and no guarantees are ever
  40. stipulated implicitly or explicitly.

  42. The way these programs work is the result of complex
  43. interactions between different kinds of hardware and
  44. software. Nobody can predict with a 100% accuracy how a
  45. certain program will behave at any given time on any given
  46. hardware configuration.

  49. guaranteeing anything. However, we do state that utmost care
  50. has been done to deliver this product with the highest
  51. quality we are capable of giving.

  54. computer files and in general of taking care of your
  55. computer system ultimately resides with you as the user.

  60. ---------
  61. This software is being distributed as shareware with a
  62. suggested registration amount of $9.00. However, you may
  63. send in any amount you feel is a fair value for the
  64. software. Registration is important so you can be in our
  65. mailing list.

  67. Like other shareware programs in circulation, continued
  68. development depends on support from satisfied users. Please
  69. write to us about any bugs, enhancements, or any other
  70. comments.

  75. send a self-addressed and stamped envelope if you expect a

  78. Installation using the Setup program
  79. ------------------------------------
  80. If you got this program in compressed form, first uncompress
  81. all the files into a floppy disk or a temporary directory on
  82. your hard drive.

  84. Go to Windows and click on File - Run. Then type a:\setup in
  85. the command line box and click on OK. Follow instructions.
  86. If you created a directory on your hard drive, replace
  87. a:\setup with the complete path, for example, c:\temp\setup.

  89. Manual installation
  90. -------------------
  91. CardBook only uses a few files:
  92. CARDBOOK.EXE - the program itself. Copy to any directory.
  93. CARDBOOK.HLP - the help file. Copy together with the main
  94.                program (CARDBOOK.EXE).
  95. VBRUN300.DLL - Visual Basic v3.0 file needed by CardBook.
  96.                Copy to the Windows System directory.
  97. CMDIALOG.VBX - Visual Basic file used by CardBook. Copy
  98.                together with VBRUN300.DLL.

  100. Note: If you already have any of the files above, you do not
  101. have to copy them again.

  103. Also: If you manually copied the program files, you have to
  104. create the icons into your Program Manager so CardBook can
  105. just be a double-click away!

  107. Registration:
  108. -------------
  109. Click on Help - Print Registration Form and fill out the
  110. Registered User box and the Licensed to box (name and
  111. address). The Registered User is the way you want your name
  112. to appear exactly. The License information is your name and
  113. address.

  115. Send your check, this form, and a self-addressed and stamped
  116. envelope to:

  123. Number. You will need this to get rid of the "Unregistered
