If you use a wordprocessor frequently, you know how useful the
standard thesaurus included among its utilities is. When you
enter a word, it provides you with a handful of synonyms that
you can use to better express your thoughts or simply avoid
repetition.
In many cases, however, your idea is not fully developed, or you
can't think of a suitable word to express it. You turn to your
conventional thesaurus for help . . . and you find that it is
insufficient to your needs.
YOU NEED A COMPLEMENTARY THESAURUS!
You need a thesaurus that responds to a word, more or less
related to your idea, placing at your disposal not only
synonyms, but a wide range of conceptually related words. It
would not only enable you to find the appropriate word, but also
help you to further develop and crystallize your thought.
We are proud to offer you this complementary electronic
thesaurus.
BesThes has a basic vocabulary of 16,520 entries with an average
of 185 related words per entry, expandable to 28,635 entries
with 210 related words per entry by means of two additional
vocabulary-enrichment modules. It is a 3,056,200-/6,013,350-
word thesaurus, which in book form would require 10/20 heavy
volumes, respectively.
For comparison, among the best-known thesauruses in book form we
find:
1) CHAMBERS, with a stated 18,000 entries and 350,000 words,
i.e., less than 20 related words per entry, in a volume of
750 pages.(C) 1988 by W.& R. Chambers Ltd. and Cambridge
University Press.
2) THE RANDOM HOUSE THESAURUS COLLEGE EDITION, with a stated
275,000 words (something like 12,000 entries with an average
of 23 related words per entry) in a volume of 812 pages.
(C) 1984 by Random House Inc.
And no less important, it is friendly and ultrafast.
