- Welcome to HyperCat!
-
- You may be a product producer who is seeking a way to create and
- distribute a catalog-on-a-disk. You could be a writer, dreaming of
- publishing your own data through the electronic world of BBS's and the
- Internet. Perhaps you represent an organization that needs to distribute
- statistics or technical data on floppy disks or maybe you produce a
- monthly newsletter that you would like to distribute electronically.
-
- All of these projects and more are ideal for HyperCat! HyperCat offers
- powerful and sophisticated capabilities while remaining easy to setup and
- use.
-
- Almost everyone has something they are good at. If you're like most
- people you've come to be good at or know a lot about something. Odds are
- that somewhere, someone would be willing to pay for your expertise.
- Hobbies or job training may have endowed you with a marketable product
- and HyperCat can make it easy to publish!
-
- Do you collect:
-
- trains, baseball cards, beer cans, barbi dolls, music, antiques, china,
- guns, bugs, comic books, tanks, ceramics, stamps, rocks, leaves, coins,
- photographs, records, tapes, CD's, art, plants, movies, books,
- magazines, memorabilia of any kind or anything else!
-
- Do you know about:
-
- cats, birds, gerbils, any kind of animal, diesel engines, getting a
- pilot's license, preparing for college exams, macrame, origami, fishing,
- hunting, computers, home repair, refinishing, beer making, cooking,
- applying for loans, selling anything, boating, mountain climbing,
- sports, childrens games, childrens songs, paper airplanes, origami,
- wine making, gardening, insurance buying, ice cream recipes, earth-
- quakes, the weather, guitars, piano tuning, the teaching, playing, or
- history of music, archery, scouting, travel locations, photography,
- motorcycles, flowers, martial arts, racing, soap box racing, little
- league, teaching, home security, criminolgy, Star Trek, space,
- astronomy, drawing, reptiles, farming, jewelry, and on and on and on...
-
- Anything you're good at can become a great source of satisfaction and
- a potential source of income. Once your knowledge is organized and you
- have a distribution media, you have a product. With HyperCat your
- Information becomes powerful and sophisticated.
-
-
- HyperCat Features
-
- HyperCat is available as shareware for use in multiple projects. It
- can be used to create disk based catalogs, author books or even act as a
- "front end menu" to multiple programs and CD-ROMs. HyperCat can be used
- as a distribution medium for almost any kind of data. A data compatible
- Windows version is under developement as well.
-
- * HyperCat setup is completely menu driven. Every feature, option,
- and menu item is a point and click operation.
-
- * Royalty free "run-time" allows you to distribute as many copies of
- your application as you please.
-
- * Complete online "context sensitive help" for both the application
- you distribute and the HyperCat Setup program.
-
- * HyperCat maintains a "Topical Search". This means you can display
- a list of every topic within a hypertext file and jump to it at any
- time. HyperCat also has a "Word/Phrase" search that allows you to
- scan the entire file for any characters.
-
- * HyperCat has been designed to detect and operate from CD-ROMs. It
- will automatically save and retrieve configurations to and from a
- hard disk, invisible to the user. There are also special features
- available for CD-ROM publishers. (Note: CD-ROM publishers require
- special licensing.)
-
- * HyperCat has the option to execute programs and batch files from
- within menu choices and from hypertext jumps imbedded in text files.
-
- * HyperCat hypertext files are surprisingly easy to create. A very
- simple system is used to turn regular text files into powerful,
- interactive hypertext.
-
- * When executing external programs from within HyperCat you have the
- option of having HyperCat remove itself from memory leaving only a
- 4k placemarker. HyperCat will automatically use EMS memory. If
- EMS memory is not available HyperCat will test every available
- drive until disk space is found. It will use drive A: or B: as a
- last resort.
-
- * Catalogs can have an fully customizable, interactive order form.
- Users can fill out name and address info once then reuse the order
- form again and again.
-
- * HyperCat supports international date formats and currency
- characters.
-
- * Default colors can be set and the user can optionally be given
- the ability to change them.
-
- * HyperCat can attach "sound effects" to various actions. Sound
- effects come in both serious and fun catagories.
-
- * "BookMarks" can be placed in any file in any position. Users can
- return to bookmarked positons at any time.
-
- * HyperCat can support multiple projects. This allows you to create
- monthly news letters or multiple issues of a product. Anytime more
- than one project exists HyperCat will prompt the user to choose.
-
- * When supporting multiple projects, HyperCat will maintain individual
- setups, user configurations and order forms for each project.
-
- * You have the option of making your data exportable to or protected
- from the user. When disabled, the copy function does not appear as
- a choice.
-
- * You have the option of having an "opening screen". The opening is
- a scrollable text window that can appear once when the program is
- first started or can be configured to appear along side the main
- menu.
-
- * Opening screens and menus automatically size to fit available screen
- space.
-
- * Menus can be positioned on the left, right or center of the screen.
-
- * Hypertext .HYP files can be compressed to conserve disk space,
- prevent access and increase access speeds.
-
- * HyperCat maintains a "history" of "jumps" made. At any time you can
- return to any position you have visitied within the document. You
- can also display and choose from a list of every topic available
- within the document.
-
- * The HyperCat Setup program maintains all projects. When a project is
- ready for distribution it will scan all menus and hypertext files for
- the different parts, including graphics and external programs then
- "compile" them all into a floppy disk or directory.
-
- HyperCat employs many more features and capabilities. The best way to
- find them out is to create an application and see just how simple it can
- be. HyperCat includes a "Getting Started" tutorial in the online help of
- the HCS (HyperCat Setup) program.

-
- HyperCat's freeform style makes it ideal as an authoring system for
- numerous types of text and data. Whether you are publishing a book,
- instruction manual, linked look-up data, corporate statistics, tutorials,
- trouble-shooting databases, news letters, how-to books and knowledgebases,
- cookbooks, study guides, and almost any kind of text or data imaginable,
- Hypercat makes electronic publishing easy!.
-
- Because HyperCat allows easy creation of menus and links, data can be
- organized and easily accessable. Even material that is updated monthly
- or quarterly is automatically integrated into a users existing system.

- Spreadsheets and statistics display nicely in the HyperCat environ-
- ment. HyperCat allows you to scroll left and right when information
- exceeds the limits of the screen making it perfect for wide spreadsheets.
-
- Don't forget that related information can be linked at any point and
- bookmarks can be placed anywhere. Users also have the option to cut and
- paste any or all of the data to the clipboard to be collected and
- printed later.

-
- Before beginning you should assemble all the necessary equipment
- together. After all the materials are in one place you can begin.
-
- Start by placing the first component in the correct position. Make
- sure it is securely fastened. Next, assure that all the correct
- connections are made. You can accomplish this by connecting each
- one to the position is was designed for. Repeat this procedure for
- each component.
-
- After the first component is correctly connected you may begin the
- secondary task of adding the necessary devices for accurate operation.
- Each device should be attached and activated. It is very important
- that this step of the construction be done correctly as a mistake in
- this area could have dire consequences. Repeat this process for
- each device to complete the operation.
-
- Before operation can begin a test must be performed to see if the
- newly assembled parts are functioning properly.
-
- After testing you can begin operation with the confidence that your
- safety is well assured.

- INTRODUCTION
-
- 'GIF' (tm) is CompuServe's standard for defining generalized color
- raster images. This 'Graphics Interchange Format' (tm) allows
- high-quality, high-resolution graphics to be displayed on a variety of
- graphics hardware and is intended as an exchange and display mechanism
- for graphics images. The image format described in this document is
- designed to support current and future image technology and will in
- addition serve as a basis for future CompuServe graphics products.
-
- The main focus of this document is to provide the technical
- information necessary for a programmer to implement GIF encoders and
- decoders. As such, some assumptions are made as to terminology relavent
- to graphics and programming in general.
-
- The first section of this document describes the GIF data format
- and its components and applies to all GIF decoders, either as standalone
- programs or as part of a communications package. Appendix B is a
- section relavent to decoders that are part of a communications software
- package and describes the protocol requirements for entering and exiting
- GIF mode, and responding to host interrogations. A glossary in Appendix
- A defines some of the terminology used in this document. Appendix C
- gives a detailed explanation of how the graphics image itself is
- packaged as a series of data bytes.

- LENSES - WHAT ARE THEY?
-
- The lens is the eye of the camera and, like our own eyes, can
- have problems in seeing the surrounding world. We who use
- cameras and lenses manipulate our instruments in a great many
- ways to give visual interpretation to that which we want to make
- as a statement for others to see. The major tool for our use in
- making this interpretation is the eye of the camera - the lens.
-
- You can use telephoto lenses to reach out to a distant object
- and bring it in close. With a wide angle lens we can expand our
- horizons to encompass, sometimes, more than our own eye can see
- at one time. A macro lens will allow us to see objects in
- greater detail through a closer look than we can see with our
- eyes, and much more objectively.
-
- Many photographers talk about the perspective that they get when
- using certain lenses. It is a fact that perspective is not a
- factor of the lens being used but is directly related to your
- viewpoint and distance from the subject. If you photograph a
- scene from the same point of view with different lenses, you
- will find that the perspective will remain the same no matter
-

-
- The portion we will be primarily concerned with is waste water
- from metal finishing operations. It is used to clean, cool, treat
- and finish products that we manufacture.
-
- As the water is used in the various processes, it picks up
- natural and unnatural contaminants or "pollutants". Natural
- contaminants are usually minerals such as calcium and magnesium
- (these are the primary components of "hard" water). Unnatural
- contaminants can be any one of, or combination of, substances
- such as alkalis or acids, oil, bacteria, metallic particles,
- paint particles, etc.
-
- In order to maintain a greatly needed natural resource, the Clean
- Water Act, as well as other Federal and local laws have been
- enacted. These essentially require you to remove contaminants
- from the waste stream, if they exist in quantities above
- prescribed limitations.
-
- Removal usually can be accomplished in a variety of ways. The
- method we will address is the most commonly used in Industry
- today. It is also the oldest known technique for water
- purification. It is known as clarification. The clarification
- process incorporates coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation and
- usually dewatering. Each is a distinct process. If conditions
- adversely affect any one of the three steps, the results will be
- less than desired.
-
- There could be a lot more here too...

- A BAT who fell upon the ground and was caught by a Weasel pleaded
- to be spared his life. The Weasel refused, saying that he was by
- nature the enemy of all birds. The Bat assured him that he was
- not a bird, but a mouse, and thus was set free. Shortly
- afterwards the Bat again fell to the ground and was caught by
- another Weasel, whom he likewise entreated not to eat him. The
- Weasel said that he had a special hostility to mice. The Bat

- AN ASS having heard some Grasshoppers chirping, was highly
- enchanted; and, desiring to possess the same charms of melody,

- beautiful voices. They replied, "The dew." The Ass resolved that
- he would live only upon dew, and in a short time died of hunger.

- The Lion and the Mouse
-
- A LION was awakened from sleep by a Mouse running over his face.
- Rising up angrily, he caught him and was about to kill him, when
- the Mouse piteously entreated, saying: "If you would only spare
- my life, I would be sure to repay your kindness." The Lion
- laughed and let him go. It happened shortly after this that the
- Lion was caught by some hunters, who bound him by strong ropes to the
- ground. The Mouse, recognizing his roar, came and gnawed the rope
- with his teeth, and set him free, exclaiming...
-
- "You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you,

- A CHARCOAL-BURNER carried on his trade in his own house. One day
- he met a friend, a Fuller, and entreated him to come and live
- with him, saying that they should be far better neighbors and
- that their housekeeping expenses would be lessened. The Fuller
- replied, "The arrangement is impossible as far as I am concerned,
- for whatever I should whiten, you would immediately blacken again
- with your charcoal."

- A BOY was hunting for locusts. He had caught a goodly number,
- when he saw a Scorpion, and mistaking him for a locust, reached

- If you had but touched me, my friend, you would have lost me, and

- A COCK, scratching for food for himself and his hens, found a
- precious stone and exclaimed: "If your owner had found thee, and

- first estate; but I have found thee for no purpose. I would
- rather have one barleycorn than all the jewels in the world."

-
- The Kingdom of the Lion
-
- THE BEASTS of the field and forest had a Lion as their king. He
- was neither wrathful, cruel, nor tyrannical, but just and gentle
- as a king could be. During his reign he made a royal
- proclamation for a general assembly of all the birds and beasts,
- and drew up conditions for a universal league, in which the Wolf
- and the Lamb, the Panther and the Kid, the Tiger and the Stag,
- the Dog and the Hare, should live together in perfect peace and
- amity. The Hare said, "Oh, how I have longed to see this day, in
- which the weak shall take their place with impunity by the side

- "Why, you have surely already had a sufficient recompense, in

-
- Using the main hypertext screen. Hypertext is the name given text
- files that contain "jumps" or "links" to related parts of the document.
- Anytime you see text enclosed by the characters you are looking at a
- hypertext jump. Sometimes hypertext jumps will execute other programs
- or display graphics.
-
- By pressing the TAB key to reach the jump, then pressing ENTER or by
- clicking the jump with the mouse cursor, you can move to another part of
- the document. At any point you can return back to the area you just left
- by clicking the BACK key.
-
- At the bottom of the hypertext screen are several "buttons". These
- features can be activated by clicking the button with the mouse or by
- pressing the hilited letter.
-
- EXIT - The Exit button closes the main hypertext screen and returns
- you to the previous menu.
-
- CONT - The Contents button "jumps" to the Contents portion of the
- document you are currently viewing. All hypertext documents
- have a Contents much the same as a book.
-
- FIND - The find feature allows you to locate any word or phrase
- within the hypertext file. You can repeat the search to
- locate additional occurrences.
-
- SRCH - The Search button displays a list of every hypertext jump
- within the document, even those not listed in the Contents.
-
- BACK - You can use the Back button to return from a hypertext jump.
- No matter where you move to in the document the Back button
- or B key will always return to the previous position.
-
- HIST - The History button displays a list of each position in the
- document you have visited. At any point you can return to
- any place you have been by selecting it from the list.
-
- COPY - The Copy button will appear only if the material you are
- viewing is available for copying. If it appears you may
- select it to display a copy window. From the copy window
- you can use the mouse or SHIFT ARROW keys to block text to
- copy to the clipboard. From the Option Screen you can
- print anything that has been copied to the clipboard to a
- printer or a text file.
-
- MARK - The Mark button is used to save your position anywhere
- in any document. This allows you to "mark" places of
- interest then return to them any time, even on another
- day. Click the Help button when the Mark window is

- About Shareware
-
- Shareware is software marketed on a "Try before you buy" basis.
-
- The price per disk that Shareware distributors charge is a distribution
- fee and not the price of the software. Shareware authors have agreed to
- allow vendors like us to recover expenses for copying, packaging, and
- maintaining a shareware library. This allows you to obtain software
- programs at incredibly low prices to try, then pay the registration price
- for them only if they suit your needs. The idea is that after a
- reasonable trial period, if you find the programs to be of use, you are
- expected to send the author the registration fee.
-
- Registration entitles you to various rights and benefits. These
- range from the legal (and moral) right to continue using the software.
- In addition many shareware authors offer printed documentation and/or
- higher levels of service and support. Unlike Public Domain software,
- which is free to everyone with no fees asked for or expected, shareware
- programs exist because the authors expect and deserve the registration
- support from people who use their programs.
-
- So that's Shareware. If you like it, support it!

- Order #1123 Order 3.5 High Density disks #1123
