___________________________________________________________________
Ending a mission:
A mission ends when the mission is over (completed or failed)
and you land at a base (by flying into it), when you're shot down,
when you self destruct, eject, collide with another target, or when
you quit by pressing Escape. When your mission is completed
successfully, a "Mission completed" message will appear. If you
fail your mission, a "Mission failure" message will appear. If you
complete a mission, you must end the mission by landing at a base
to get credit for completing the mission. If you complete a mission
you'll get paid, based on your rank. You also get paid a small
bonus for each enemy target you destroy. When you complete a
mission you have a chance for promotion, and a chance that an enemy
planet will be captured. When you fail a mission, your number of
completed missions decreases by one, you have a chance of demotion,
and a chance of a friendly planet being captured. If you complete a
mission there's a chance your skill level will be increased
automatically (game gets tougher). Likewise, if you fail a mission
there's a chance your skill level will be decreased automatically
(game gets easier).
___________________________________________________________________
Pilot stats and skills:
Pilot stats and skills affect the game in the following ways:
Quadrant - Which quadrant you are currently trying to secure. The
game begins in quadrant 0. Once that is secured, you
then begin on quadrant 1, then quadrant 2, etc. The
overall objective of the game is to secure as many
quadrants as possible. If you lose all quadrants, you
lose the game.
Rank - Affects mission difficulty, pay, combat victory bonuses, and
radar range.
Missions completed - You can only be promoted or capture enemy
planets when you complete a mission. You can
only be demoted or lose friendly planets when
you fail a mission. Completing a mission has a
chance of raising your skill level. Failing a
mission has a chance of lowering your skill
level.
Combat victories - You get paid a small bonus for each combat
victory. Each time you get a combat victory,
there's a chance your dexterity will increase
due to combat experience.
-11-
Skill level - The higher the level the tougher the enemy's tactics.
Values range from 0 to 5. Affects the following
aspects of target behavior:
* Whether targets evade incoming fire.
* How often targets fire.
* Following speed for targets. How fast they fly when
following you. At skill level 0 they fly past you
at full throttle. At skill level 5 they stick to
your tail like superglue!
* Flyby distance. How far targets fly past you before
turning. The higher the skill level the sooner they
start their turn.
* Turning speed. How fast they fly when turning
towards you. The higher the skill level, the slower
they fly - resulting in wide high speed turns at
low skill levels, and tight low speed turns at high
skill levels.
* Flyby speed. How fast targets fly past you before
turning. The higher the skill level, the slower
they fly by.
Credits - Used to repair your ship, refuel and rearm, improve your
ship, training and classes, healing, and gambling. You
can also be fined credits for damaging friendly targets.
If you run out of credits, you must start a new pilot.
Intelligence - Affects chance of promotion/demotion, and chance of
passing skill classes.
Dexterity - Affects chance to hit in combat.
Health - How much damage you can take. Ship damage to the cockpit
can injure or even kill a pilot. Health also affects your
chance to survive ejection.
Charisma - Affects your chance for promotion.
Wounds - How much damage you've taken. Affects your chance to hit.
If wounds equals health, you die.
Pilot skill - Affects ship maneuverability.
Medical skill - Reduces healing costs.
Mechanic skill - Reduces cost of hull and energy cell repairs.
Electronic skill - Reduces cost of avionics, shield, and radar
repairs.
Computer skill - Reduces cost of display repairs.
Laser skill - Reduces cost of weapon repairs. Affects chance to hit
with lasers.
Missile skill - Reduces cost of weapon repairs. Affects chance to
hit with missiles.
Engineer skill - Reduces cost of engine and hyperdrive repairs.
Affects ship speed.
Leader skill- Affects chance of promotion/demotion.
___________________________________________________________________
The top 10 list:
When you die, you have a chance to make the top 10 list of
alltime best pilots. Position in the top 10 list is based first on
quadrant, then rank, then missions, and finally on combat
victories.
