HBR0 & HBR1 Type 1 and TrueType fonts for DOS/Windows
(shareware $25)
Compressed file name - HBR01.ZIP
Latest version 6/27/94
If you have registered HBR0&1 thank you for your support.
HBR0 & HBR1 are 2 parts of a Hebrew font with which you can type
in every consonant/vowel/accent combination in the Hebrew Bible.
In the extended ASCII positions HBR0 has all of the vowel/accent
combinations pre-drawn for normal width letters, and HBR1 has
all of the vowel/accent combinations for narrow letters.
There are some fonts which attempt to do this with one character
set, but they fail to correctly position the vowels and/or accents
with certain combinations. In HBR0 & HBR1, every single vowel/accent
combination has been predrawn, so the positions should be much
more accurate. If you are not interested in accents at all, then
you can use HBR0 alone, or else get a copy of HEBRA. If you
want a font with which you can type in all the consonant vowel/accent
combinations using a single font, then you need to get HEBREKA.
Both HEBRA and HEBREKA are available on the Computer Support BBS
(see below). And will be available shortly on Compuserve.
******************* Word Perfect 6.0 users **************
It is not possible to use vowel/accent combinations with Word
Perfect for DOS & Windows.
The DOS version has their own character maps
and they are incompatible with EVERY other ASCII table.
I have tested HBR0 with Word Perfect 6.0 and it works ok using
the lower ASCII characters. Don't try to use the extended
ASCII positions to type in vowel/accent combinations, though.
To install, copy the desired .PFB files into the
PSFONTS directory, or .TTF fonts into the WP60 directory.
Start Word Perfect. Select File, Print, Select, Edit, Install
fonts. Select the fonts you wish to install. When you
exit the font installer, you will be back at the File, Print,
Select, Edit menu. Select Graphic fonts. Make sure there
the new fonts are marked with an asterisk. Save your
changes. The fonts should now be available. Note, that the
character maps for Word Perfect are different than for Windows,
and I have not been able to figure out where all the upper
ASCII characters are yet. If I ever do, I will post my findings
on my BBS.
Select the printer you wish to use the fonts for, and select
the desired fonts. Be sure to install the Graphic font (screen)
as well as the printer font.
If you have registered these fonts, thankyou for your support!

HBR0____.* and HBR1____.* are shareware fonts and are
Copyrighted by Donald Reiher and are not free. My policy on shareware
is, if you use my shareware fonts, then please register and pay for
them. To use them and not register them is the same as stealing.
If you wish to register HBR0 or HBR1 please write to the address,
listed below.
If you are using a copy of HBR0____.* or HBR1____.*
and have not registered them (you need to register one copy for
each computer it is loaded on), you are in violation of US Copyright Law.
The ONLY exception is for those who want to use the font on their
work or school machine and then on their home computer when they
come home from work. Just as long as only one person is using the
fonts at any one time, then only one registration fee is needed. I
am purposely not charging much so any student should be able to
afford to register them ($25). . . so REGISTER THEM!

File Descriptions
READ.ME - This file!
ADOBSAMP.WRI - This is a MS Write file with the first few verses
of Genesis in HBR0&1 fonts.
HBR0&1.WRI - This is the documentation for these fonts. PLEASE
READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THESE FONTS!
HBR0&1.DOC - The same in Word 2.0a format.
(part 1 of 2)
HBR0____.PFB - This Hebrew font resembles the typestyle in BHS. It
HBR0____.PFM contains all the vowels and vowel/accent combinations
HBR0____.TTF for normal width letters. The letters all space
automatically. If you are not interested in accents
you need to use only this Hebrew font.
(part 2 of 2)
HBR1____.PFB - This is the second part of HBR0____ as there are too many
HBR1____.PFM vowel/accent combinations to fit in one font. This is
HBR1____.TTF identical to HBR0 except all vowel and vowel/accent
combinations are for half width letters.
NOTE:
The files ending in .PFB and .PFM are the Adobe Type 1 fonts.
The files ending in .TTF are Windows 3.1 True Type fonts.
NOTE FOR TRUETYPE USERS:
In testing TrueType HBR0 and HBR1 fonts, there is a problem with
the screen display. For example, if you type "he" with HBR0, switch to
HBR1 and type "segol" and then "nun" and then switch back to HBR0 again,
the segol will not appear on the screen, yet prints fine. The problem is
that Windows does not overstrike two different fonts over top of each other
very well. A solution is to be a aware when a half width letter is the
next character and switch to HBR1 one character before (to the left of) the
half width character (typing from left to right). For example, using the
above illustration, switch to HBR1 BEFORE you type the "he" then type in
"segol" and "nun." This is a bit of a pain, but when the automatic
text retrieval tools are done, then you won't have to bother with this
at all.
NOTE FOR TYPE 1 USERS OF HBR0 & HBR1 WHO USE ACCENTS
Hint: If you don't use accents this is not a problem, because you will
only be using HBR0 and will not be switching fonts in words.
In testing Type 1 HBR0 and HBR1 fonts, there is a problem with the screen
display when switching fonts in the middle of a word. For example, if you
type a He in HBR0 (full width), switch to HBR1, type in a narrow vowel
accent combination (such as ALT-173), and type Nun, you will discover
that the accent which juts to the left underneath the He does not appear
on the screen, although it prints fine. Windows will not display
overlapping portions of 2 characters from 2 different fonts, although
it prints fine. The solution to the display problem is to anticipate when
an overlap is needed, and stay in one font while the overlaps occur.
Using the example I just gave, type the He using HBR1, then the ALT-173
character will display extending underneath the He just fine.
