GENERAL INFORMATION:
MESSAGE FORMATS:
GenMsg formats messages differently depending on their purpose. NetMail is
different from Echo-Mail and Local-Mail, and messages destined for the
Internet via a gateway is a NetMail message formatted in another fashion.
Echo-Mail messages are not "addressed" to anyone, but they do bear the
address of the originator, and a MSGID kludge which contains the originating
address and a unique number used for comparing messages in DUP testing.
Echo-Mail messages also have an Origin line with your personalized message to
identify it as well.
NetMail messages are fully addressed. The header of a FidoNet message
contains the Net/Node address, but in todays FidoNet this is not always
enough so an INTL kludge is also added which provides full
Zone:Net/Node.Point addressing of both the originator and recipient. Some
Editors do not support the addition of POINT extentions to the INTL, so two
other kludges may be found TOPT (to point) and FMPT (yep you guessed it, From
point).
Internet messages are sent thru a "gate-way". They are NetMail messages
addressed to the gate-way, which contain the "uucp" or "Internet" address as
the first visable (not hidden behind a CTRL-A) string of the message,
followed by a blank line to be used for other purposes by the gate-way
software which must convert it to Internet format and pass it on. You must
have this option enabled in your GenMsg.ini to use this feature.
When properly setup, GenMsg does all of this for you. <grin> so you don't
have to try and remember it all...
