Welcome new users to the Shareware Version of YDPOP. Shareware is a way of
trying out software prior to purchasing. While using shareware you do not

data provided. Use of the program beyond 30 days is a violation of your
right to demo this software. By registering this program, you can be
assured of continual upgrading of the product.
YDPOP is a TSR program designed to be used with the DOS operating system.
Also look for YDPLUS, the DOS program with printing and many more features
to numerous to include in a TSR program.
YDPOP is a Terminate and Stay Resident contact manager. This means you
will have instant access to your names and address data from within most
other programs. No need to stop and save what you are doing and enter
a contact database. When the phone rings press the hot key; Cntrl-Y, and
YDPOP will save your place and become active. You can then record memo
notes and look up information. This is very handy when someone calls and
your memory needs help. All data fields can be searched, one piece of
information will quickly find the rest of the record. This is very handy
if you deal with many clients or do alot of cold calling.Upon completion
of the call press the escape key and YDPOP will restore your place and
you can continue without loosing any time.
With YDPOP you can share address information with other programs. No
longer do you have to grab the rolodex or write down the address after
looking it up on the screen. YDPOP will export the name and address right
into your letter. As simple as popup, find the record, "/", <enter>,
<enter>, and the address will be typed into your letter.

NEW with Version 2.3B is the addition of a phone call log feature which
will create a text file of the date, time, and purpose of the call when
the autodialer is used with a modem. Added the ability to select the
fields exported from the YDPLUS export menu. Corrected the trade code
removal feature in YDPLUS. Corrected the autodialer to reset when busy
signal received.
NEW with Version 2.2K is the addition of the Local Exchange for phone
numbers. Using this feature you can have your data indicate local phone
numbers. This feature can help you avoid long distance charges if you
do a lot of local phone calling. Bug fixes as discribed in the history
file. An Area Code/State lookup feature that given AC or State the
other will be shown. Quick where is AC 303 or Whats the AC for NEBRASKA
(Both will be shown). See the end of this file for additional info to
set up your local phone exchange file. Most areas will not be anywhere
near as difficult or long as the Washington DC metro area.
NEW with Version 2.2J is the addition of a CALENDAR CREATOR. Calendar
is a stand alone program using the YDPOP data files in the current path
to create a Dot Matrix or LaserJet calendars. To Use type CALENDAR at at
DOS prompt.
YDPOP does not use a lot of memory when inactive. YDPOP leaves a
"footprint" of 4K while inactive or popped down. Ydpop automatically
locates itself in EMS or XMS memory when available, or on your hard drive
when memory is not available. YDPOP works with most 16 color VGA graphics
programs.
Typically you should install YDPOP in a subdirectory named YDPOP and
use the DOS command c:\ydpop\ydpop to install YDPOP in the background.
You may substitute other directory names in place of YDPOP. Add the
command line- C:\ydpop\ydpop into your autoexec.bat file for automatic
loading of YDPOP when the computer is turned on.
YDPOP is very useful within a text based word processor as a rotory
name file. YDPOP can type the address directly into your letter using
an export feature. YDPOP has the ability to attach up to 200 lines of
memos to each record. While working within a DOS program and YDPOP is
running in the background, when the phone rings you press Control-Y, answer
the phone, determine who the caller is and search for their record. At this
point all the past memos can be displayed for your quick reference. This
will greatly "enhance" your memory, and with the dates of memos displayed
will give a chronology of your contacts with the individual or company.
This demo version is limited to 200 contact records. The registered version
will also allow the use of an unlimited number of subdirectories. Please
register for a full featured version.
The main keys to remember when using YDPOP are the slash key /, the F1 key,
the F2 key and the escape key.
Slash Key / = Will display a menu of available commands
F1 Key = Will display a scrollable help screen. Use the up and down
arrow to view the entire help message.
F2 Key = Allows access to a completed cell for editing. A blank cell
may be filled by typing directly into the cell. Once filled
you must press the F2 key to edit the cell. This feature acts
to protect your data from errant keystrokes.
Escape Key = The escape key "escapes" from the current operation and moves
backward a single step. While the record is displayed, press-
ing escape will exit the popup and return to your calling prog-
ram.
YDPOP includes a two mode (Hewlett Packard, and Standard) calculator with
export features and a perpetual calendar.

Ydplus is a mailing management program, of which YDPOP is a part, allowing
the user to classify the contacts (records) into an unlimited range of
classifications. Each record may be part of up to 10 seperate classifications.
As an example; the contact might be 1).a personal friend, 2).on your christmas
card list, and 3).a member of your church at the same time. Most programs
would require that you enter the information three times and when printing
select the list you desire. Problems arise when you have to edit 3 or more
records everytime a change occurs.
NEW with Version 2.3B is the addition of a phone call log feature which
will create a text file of the date, time, and purpose of the call when
the autodialer is used with a modem. Added the ability to select the
fields exported from the YDPLUS export menu. Corrected the trade code
removal feature in YDPLUS. Corrected the autodialer to reset when busy
signal received.
YDPOP as used in the building and contracting industry designates that the
classes are used to describe the type of work the contractor is capable of
performing. An example of a multi-talented firm might be; a minority drywall
contractor who also does plaster and trim carpentry. YDPLUS uses 1 record
and 4 of 10 available fields to discribe this firm. A great tool for the
minority participation requirements of government projects.
YDPLUS contains many reports and mail management features, including multi-
record laser jet labels, phone books. You may control what records are
printed by setting limits. The calendar routine furnished with YDPOP is
built into the YDPLUS print menu. YDPLUS registration includes a 70 page
manual describing each feature of the program in detail.

│ New Feature: March 1994│
│ │
│ Local Phone # Indication │
│ │
│(C)1993 Corvet Systems, Inc. 1714 Featherwood Street, Silver Spring, Md. │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This feature works both with the YDPLUS and YDPOP programs, when a local
phone # is detected, the message "Local" will be displayed to the right of
the local area phone number. This will eliminate the need to tell the program
how many digits to dial. Should you ever need to travel or move to another
area of the country, all you would need to do is substitute another local
area code file. All phone numbers should be entered in the following format;
XXX-XXX-XXXX. The program will then use the local exchange file you create
to determine the number of digits to dial.
As the first step make sure you have your correct local area coded entered
in either the /, Utility, Radd section of YDPOP or the File Default section
of YDPLUS.
To use the feature, you must create a file named LOCXHNGE.TXT containing
all the local phone exchange numbers (3 digit numbers after the area code).
Use the text editor included with DOS5 and later or use your favorite word
processor and save the file as an ASCII text file. Refer to your manuals
for an explaination on how to do this.
This is not as difficult as it sounds. In the front of your white pages
phone directory is a listing of your local exchanges. In a major metro area
this might be as many as 500, most areas will have considerably fewer. This
information is used by the modem to autodial, but is VERY handy even if you
don't have a modem connected to your computer. The information can save you
money by allowing you to see if toll charges will be added to your phone bill,
this may influence your decision to call or not to call. I know when you
are using list of phone numbers this can SAVE A LOT OF MONEY. This can also
help target your local business market first.
You need to create a text(Ascii) file with these numbers and they HAVE to be
in the following format:
202A 205 206 207 208 209 210 211 212 213 214 215 216 217 218 219 220 221 222
3017 718 731 735 736 738 753 762 763 770 772 773 779 794 805 807
The first 3 characters are the area code. The Fourth character is number of
digits to dial; 7 for 7 digits or A for all. Most local exchanges will use
seven digits, but the option exists to dial the area code too. In the
Washington DC Metro area many of the local numbers require you to dial the
area code even though no long distance charges apply.
Characters 11-76 contain up to 18 seperate 3 digit local exchange codes ,
they must be seperated by blanks. You may have as many lines of local exchanges
as you need, and the line does not have to be entirely filled. Do not
place more than 18 exchange codes on each line of data.
The phone numbers in your database all have to be in the following format
for this system to work: xxx-xxx-xxxx. If you ever move around the country
the only step you will need is to recreate the local exchange file, or as
you move around the country you may have more than one exchange file on
your computer.
The following is an example of the file needed for the Silver Spring, Md.
area. You can see we have four area codes in our local exchange. Even though
we have four area codes many of the exchanges are local non toll calls. The
202(DC), 410(Md) and 703(Va) codes all require that the 3 digit area code be
dialed, thus the fourth character of each of these records is the letter
A(all). The local 301(Md) exchanges use 7 digit codes thus the 4th character
on each line is the number 7. The exchange numbers do not have to be entered
in any order.

Remember ONLY put the phone exchanges within your local calling area into
this file. Phone numbers with these exchanges will have a LOCAL indicator
next to the phone number when a record is displayed on the screen.
Again I would like to remind you to make sure the local area code is entered
in the field provided in the defaults section of YDPLUS or Radd section of
the YDPOP TSR program.

The Yellow Disk Popup program is a terminate and stay resident (TSR)
DOS program. The program is one "Hot Key" away from activating when needed
and then becomes inactive and allows you to continue your original task
uninterrupted. The program only requires 4K of DOS's 640K while inactive.
The program automatically resides in extended memory if the Computer has the
required amount or is read from a hard disk. You also can force the program
to be read from disk preserving your extended memory. At the dos prompt type
the command YDPOP (or YDPOP DISK) to load the program. The YDPOP command may
be added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The YDPOP.EXE file must be present in the
C:\YDPLUS subdirectory. We do not recommend using YDPOP while using YDPLUS.

Moving the highlight bar to a phone type cell and then pressing the
F1 key will display the phone type entry screen shown above. The position
type entry screen is similar. While the screen is displayed you may
modify the meaning of the individual codes. When changing an existing
code definition, make sure all records agree with the new definiton.
Pressing any key from A-O or Highlighting a cell type and pressing the
carriage return will transfer the code to the address record.
RECORD EXPORTING:
Three export options exist: Word Processor, Vertical Spread Sheet, and
Horizontal Spread Sheet. To use any of these options, load YDPOP and let YDPOP
remain in the background as previously explained. Enter your word processor
or spread sheet program as usual. Then YDPOP will insert the address just as
if you typed it yourself. The program must be ready to receive a typed address.
The word processor option also will type the current date above the address.
To quickly enter an address popup using control-Y, find the address and press;
/, enter, enter. The address has been added to your letter and you are ready
proceed with the body of the letter.
When exporting addresses to a spread sheet, first be sure the currently
highlighted cell is empty. To export horizontally; popup using control-y,
press /, enter, H. The Address will be exported into six horizontal cells.
Contact name, business name, city, state, and zip code will be in separate
cells. The highlighted cell will be ready for the next export. You may need
to adjust the width of individual spreadsheet columns to see the results.
A vertical spread sheet export will place the contact name, business
name, address, city/state/zip in four cells below one another.

Use the /S command to display the above screen. Four alternative
sort orders are available; 1) business name, 2) phone #1, 3) zip code
and 4) mail address. Press the page down key to select sort order.
Press the Y key and the sort will begin. Records are read, sorted
and then a new file is written in the selected order. Pressing the
escape key during any portion of the sort will end the sort and the
current order will be retained. If using YDPOP from within YDPLUS,
do not use the YDPOP sort function.
PHONE DIALING:
A Hayes compatible modem must be connected and functioning for this
option to work. Select this option from the utility menu or press the Alt-F3
speed key. The program will ask what phone number to use if the record has
more than one. The program will use the COM port selected while using the
utility menu's Radd(Return ADDress) function.
ENVELOPE & LABEL PRINTING:
The command /O E (Outp, Envl) allows the printing of an envelope. The
command /O L (Outp, Labl) allows printing dot matrix labels. The printer
and printer port selected in the return address(Radd) function is used. When
a laser jet printer is selected, the United States Postal Service UPS bar
code is printed on envelopes. The program will not allow a laser printer to
print a single label due to waste of material.
SETTING FILE DIRECTORY:
The default settings when you activate YDPOP are; the C drive and the
YDPLUS subdirectory. You may select the drive and file directory. If your
selection is not available, the program will repeat the drive and directory
questions.
-----------------
FIND RECORD & CONTINUE SEARCH:
The Find(F6 speed key) and Next(F7) commands allow the search of the
file for desired records. The first step in searching is to select the
cell type to be searched by highlighting the cell. Next make sure of the
current position in the file, as the search will proceed from the current
position to the end. Press /, F (or F6) and enter the search text. If a
matching record is found it will be displayed. Press /, N (or F7) to find
the next match without entering the search text again. If searching the
phone numbers or contact names, all cells of the same type will be searched.
GOTO COMMAND:
Use the GOTO (F5 speed key) command to jump from record to record without
pressing the pageup or pagedown keys. If you know the record number you want
enter it and the record will be displayed. Pressing F5, home will move to the
first record, and F5, end will move to the last.
SETTING RETURN ADDRESS AND HARDWARE DEFAULTS (Radd):
Using the /, U, R command you can define the envelope return address and
several hardware functions. Six printers are currently available; 1-ttycrlf
2-Epson Fx, 3-391 Okidata, 4-HP Laserjet III, 5-HP Laserjet II, 6-NEC
Pinwriter. Printer ports (1-4) and Com Port (1-4) for modem may be set. Setting
the PrntRADD variable to Y(es) will print the return address on Envelopes. When
a phone number contains the Local Area Code the program will ask if the number
is local before dialing the long distance area code.
