DP>I am a little confused. I had heard that the filters will not get

DP>pills or drops before drinking. Is there a filter that will tke ALL
DP>harmeful things <polutants and microbes> out of the water? It sure would
DP>be nice to drink cold water from a stream thru a filter instead of
DP>boiling and treating.
Excuse me for jumping in. My suggestion would be to disinfect the water
first and then filter it. I would only do this with water that looks
clear to begin with. If the water is dirty the disinfection will require
more CL2 (or whatever you use). Use a chlorine residual tester to check
the demand, this way you can add only what is needed to insure proper
disinfection. I am not aware of any filter that can safely disinfect the
water, but I can think of many filters that will get the residual CL2
out. Try to give the disinfectant as much time to react with the water
as possible, that way you wont need to add as much CL2. The water
district I work for maintains a chlorine residual of about .6 ppm
throughout the distribution system. And thats being on the safe side. At
that level I cant even notice it. But I live in So Cal so that probably
makes me less sensitive to tastes and oders. I have quite a few books
regarding water treatment, if you would like me to look up something
specific let me know.
Cheers-
