Formula 1 Grand Prix Team And Driver Editor v1.1
by
GJ LEVINE
A small editor to change team performances, driver skills and
car colors for Formula 1 Grand Prix/World Circuit.
With this editor, you can edit versions 1.02 and 1.04 of the game.
They are automatically detected upon loading. In addition, all driving
helps are made available in any skill level. NOT for use in V1.03!
Before using this program, be sure to make a backup copy of your
original GP.EXE file, as it will be changed directly.
GJ LEVINE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR LOSS OF DATA
CAUSED BY THIS PROGRAM. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Recommended installation:
Copy the following files to GPRIX main directory (the one
including GP.EXE):
F1ED.DTA
F1ED.EXE
SVGA256.BGI (included without author's permit, but as no money
is gained, it is assumed that it won't matter.
Actually, his name would be mentioned if known.)
Also included is a name file for the '93 season. Copy it to
your saves directory if you want to use it. This file retains
the overall performance ranges of the original with only very
minor adjustments to reflect the '93 season as it stands.
Usage:
At the command line prompt, type F1ED <namefile>, where <namefile>
is the relative path and filename of the name file you have
previously saved from the game. It is used to display correct
team and driver names and will not be changed by this program.
Changing team performances:
Click on a team name to highlight it and use the LARGE plus and
minus buttons to change the value, which ranges from 100 to 999
and represents a relative power of the cars. The power of
the cars controlled by human players is always 716 and cannot be
changed. This program does NOT effect computer drivers braking
distances.
Changing team colors:
Click on a team name to highlight it and use the '<' and '>' buttons
below the car to change the part of car. Clicking on a color in
the palette will then change the part's color. Avoid using grey
colors in the lower half of the palette and colors on the top row
as they are used in the 'dashboard'. There might also be others
that do not behave like they should in wet races. Also note that
the polygons of the first team do not entirely correspond to the
car that you see in the game.
Changing driver skills:
First select a team and then click on a skill number you want to
change. 'Q' stands for qualifying skill and 'R' stands for race
skill. Then use the small plus and minus buttons to change the
values. Skills range from 1 to 34, 1 being the best. Skills is
defined as likely order of placement for 'Q' and 'R' results
which also takes team performance numbers into consideration.
Saving:
Click on the 'W' letter in the upper right corner of the screen.
The program updates your GP.EXE and also makes a file named
F1ED.DTA with the current values and colors. Upon starting the
game, F1ED.DTA is checked for existence. When found, F1ED.DTA is
used to read in the performance and skill values. If F1ED.DTA is not
found, the values are read in from GP.EXE. Team and driver names are
always read from the name file specified on the command line.
Exiting:
To exit the program, click on the letter 'X' in the lower right
corner of the screen. Make sure you've saved your modifications
before you exit.
History:
1.04 30 March 1993
First release. Included two separate programs, one for each
version of the game (1.02 and 1.04).
1.1 31 March 1993
Added version detection and merged the two separate programs that
were in the first release. A small bug in the name file loading
corrected. Driving helps in all skill levels added.
