  8. │ This record is a means of conveying information about a software   │
  9. │ product from the author to distributors and users.  It contains a  │
  10. │ normal, "human-readable" section (you're reading it now), followed │
  11. │ by a compressed data record.  The data record contains a great     │
  12. │ deal of information in a form useable by automated tools.  This    │
  13. │ allows BBSes, disk vendors, etc. to test automatically for         │
  14. │ permission to distribute, and to automatically extract product     │
  15. │ information for use in BBS files databases, vendor catalogs, etc.  │

  89. This is a small, freely useable and distributable collection of batch
  90. files and other utility materials for users of the VENDINFO tools.

  92. Since this little collection will probably be updated rather frequently,
  93. it also provides a natural vehicle for distributing the most recent
  94. versions of the CATEGORY.INF file used by all VENDINFO tools, and other
  95. similar items.

  97. Also included are a number of batch files that extend the functionality
  98. available to the VendEdit user.  These functions may eventually reside
  99. inside VendEdit, but are -- at least for now -- provided as separate
  100. batch files that operate on the created VENDINFO.DIZ files.

  132.                    upload scripts from VENDINFO.DIZ information, to

  137.    CATEGORY.INF -- The most recent available version of the product
  138.                    category hierarchy originated by Rob Rosenberger,
  139.                    and used by VendEdit, VendPrcs, and VendView to
  140.                    map category numbers into readable text and
  141.                    vice-versa.

  143.    DISTRIBS.ZIP -- A small PKZIP-compressed collection of *.DST files
  144.                    provided by distributors who offer a "fulfillment",
  145.                    or registration-fee-collection service, for shareware
  146.                    authors and publishers.  VendEdit can directly
  147.                    import this information into VENDINFO.DIZ files,
  148.                    allowing the author to easily provide accurate and
  149.                    current information about other distributors of
  150.                    registered versions.
