What's new in VDS Pro 3.0N and 3.0P?
____________________________________
There is one significant modification to the operation of VDS Pro 3.0.
The scanners in the VDS Pro package load the internal virus signatures
from a file at run-time. This file is named VDSVSIGS.SIG and placed in the
VDSPRO30 home directory. You can change the file name to something you wish
to use as long as you update the entry for [INTSIGS] in the .INI files.
As usual, we have added identification for dozens of new viruses and
corrected problems with recognition of some old viruses. We discovered a few
minor bugs and fixed them.
Summary of Changes/Enhancements
_______________________________
* Virus signatures are now kept in VDSVSIGS.SIG file. By replacing this
file, you can easily update the scanning capability of the programs
in the package. We will provide the updated .SIG file regularly.
* Fixed a bug that caused VDS not to function properly on some SCSI-drive
systems with an on-board BIOS and a known motherboard disk access point.
VDS would try to use the motherboard bios access and fail since hard disk
could not be accessed in this way. This problem surfaced when certain
old ASPI drivers were used.
* A few warning/error messages were displayed but never logged in the
VDS-STAT.LOG file. This has been corrected.
* In certain cases, VDS would log the time of operation as "PM" although
it was "AM" in actuality.
* A bug in the scanning routine caused VDS to miss some viruses although
the program had the correct signatures for them.
* Some faulty scan strings were replaced with correct ones.
* Certain command line options did not work properly. Fixed.
* We have added two new command line options to the INSTALL and VDS programs:
In INSTALL:
-D Force VDS to generate debug report in C:\VDSDEBUG.LOG
-S Force VDS to use SCSI-compatible code
In VDS:
-E Use SCSI-compatible code
-Y Generate debug report in C:\VDSDEBUG.LOG
* We have added a new command line option to VDSTSR:
VDSTSR /D
-D Diskswap, keep virus information on disk to reduce memory footprint.
Creates a file named C:\$VDSTSR$.SWP.
* If the DOS diskette was removed after booting off of it, then INSTALL
would prematurely abort. Fixed.
