  5. *** Standard Installation ***
  6.  
  7. Follow this easy one-time installation procedure:
  8.  
  9. 1) Create a directory to hold the Space Hound related files.  The
  10. recommended directory name (used in the following instructions) is
  11. "C:\Spacehnd".
  12.  
  13. 2) Copy all Space Hound-related files to this directory.  At a minimum
  14. you need the following files:  
  15. SPACEHND.EXE
  16. HOUND1.DLL
  17. HOUND2.DLL
  18. HOUND3.DLL
  19. SPACEHND.HLP
  20.  
  21. 3) Note:  You will also need a copy of VBRUN300.DLL.  This file is
  22. available within many CompuServe forums.
  23.  
  24. 4) You may optionally copy the following files to C:\Spacehnd:
  25. APIGUIDE.DLL
  26. MHRUN400.DLL
  27. CMDIALOG.VBX
  28. MHGCMD.VBX
  29. MHTR200.VBX
  30. MHVIEW.VBX
  31. MUSCLE.VBX
  32. THREED.VBX
  33.  
  34. Note:  It is possible that you may have existing copies of these files
  35. within your WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory or within other directories
  36. on your system.  These files are used by many different applications both
  37. from shareware and commercial companies.  The proper location for these
  38. files is within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  Caution, before you copy
  39. these files to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you should use the Windows
  40. File Manager to see if copies of these files already exist.

  42. If these files are not present within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you
  43. may simply copy them into it and proceed to step 5. 
  44.  
  45. If versions of any of the files are already on your computer, you should
  46. use the Windows File Manager to look at each file's date & time to determine
  47. if the existing version is newer than the files included within the 
  48. SPACEHND.ZIP file.  If your existing files are newer, Space Hound should
  49. work just fine with them and you can proceed to step 5.

  51. If the Space Hound files are newer, you should move your original files
  52. to a temporary directory in case you encounter problems with other
  53. software and need to get them back.  
  54.  
  55. Once you have moved the older files to a temporary location, you may
  56. copy the Space Hound supplied versions to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  57. Note:  Once Space Hound is installed and running, you can use it's ability
  58. to peek inside files and view the file's version information.  This will 
  59. generally confirm which one is the older version.
  60.  
  61. 4) Use the Windows Program Manager to place Space Hound within an
  62. existing program group or create a new group and then add the program
  63. to it.  Refer to your Windows' documentation on adding new programs
  64. and groups.  
  65.  
  66. NOTE: Fineware is aware that the install process is complicated and we
  67. would like to help.  In general, shareware downloads need to be as small
  68. as possible to reduce connect time charges.  If you are not comfortable
  69. with the installation process described above, you may contact us and
  70. for a small postage and handling charge ($2), we will send you a complete
  71. setup and installation package.  This will still be the unregistered
  72. version of Space Hound but it will contain everything you need to
  73. properly and easily install the program.

  75. That's all there is to installing Space Hound.  When Space Hound is
  76. activated for the first time, a few one-time only dialog boxes and
  77. messages are displayed.

  79. Remember that while Space Hound is active, online help is always
  80. available by pressing the F1 key.
  81.  
  82. Common installation problems:  
  83. Many of today's applications include components from other 3rd party
  84. distributors.  These components are like snap-together parts.
  85. When an application is initially designed, the programmer
  86. is probably using the latest version of all of the components his
  87. application needs.  Over time, these components may be enhansed to
  88. include new features and capabilities.  A frequent problem occurs when
  89. a newer application makes use of features that were not available
  90. in earlier version of the software.  This can cause problems when
  91. multiple versions of these components exist on your computer. 
  92. Please refer to the following list of files and eliminate older
  93. version if possible.
