The following information was not included in the documentation
file, frtools.man.
THE FRBRAND PROGRAM
A note to registered users. Your package includes a file called
frbrand.exe. This file places your name and license number in the Fr
Tools program. It is our way of allowing you free upgrades forever!
To use the frbrand program, make sure it is in the same subdirectory
as the rest of the Fr Tools files. Change to that subdirectory, type
frbrand and hit enter.
That's all there is to it! To upgrade to the latest version of Fr
Tools, obtain a copy of the latest demonstration version, unzip it into
the subdirectory on your hard drive containing Fr Tools and repeat the
above branding procedure.
The escape key has been enabled in the cleanup, reformat, nontext
character removal, decolumnizer and the spell checker. When you hit
escape, you will be asked if you want to save what you've already done.
Hit "Y" to save or "N" to abandon the material changed by the procedure
you are running.
Limited editing capability has been added to Fr Tools. You can edit
the portion of the current document that is in memory. To do this, hit
alt-e from the proof reader. The editor has the standard functions you
would expect. The active keys are as follows:
Key Default Action
Ctrl-Y Delete the current line
Ctrl-T Delete word right
Ctrl-B Reform Paragraph
Ctrl-V/Ins Toggle insert mode
Ctrl-W Finish editing with save
Esc Abort edit and return original
DEL delete character under cursor
This feature has been added to allow final tuning of text, not
easily accomplished with macros.
LEARN MODE
There is a new item on the main menu between clean up scanner
errors and spell check the document. It's called "Learn Mode."
Choosing this option causes the program to search your document
and list all the words it doesn't recognize. You can then deal with
each error, one by one, without having to proofread the entire document.
The analysis of your document may take some time. The program
checks about 750 words per minute. You can interrupt the analysis at
any time by hitting the escape key. When you return to learn mode with
the same document loaded, the analysis automatically picks up where it
left off.
While the analysis is running, the number of words scanned, errors
found and the accuracy rating are given every 500 words.
When the analysis is complete, a list of all errors and the number
of times they occurred appears on your screen. The most frequently
occurring error is at the top and is highlighted. You can highlight
other items with the up and down arrows and scroll through the list with
pgup and pgdn.
Highlight an error and hit enter. A menu bar appears at the bottom
of the screen. The options are: pass, view/correct, dictionary,
macro and quit.
The "pass" option removes an error from the list. It is used when
Fr Tools does not recognize a proper name, abbreviation or word
that belongs in the document. You will also want to "pass" an error
after using the view/correct option.
The "view/correct" option puts you in the proofreader and finds the
first occurrence of the error. All proofreading and editing options are
available to you. To move to the next occurrence, hit alt-f.
Repeat this process until you have dealt with the error to your
satisfaction, then exit the proofreader by hitting escape. You will be
returned to the list with the same error highlighted. Use the "pass"
option to remove it from the list and move to the next one.
The "dictionary" option adds the unrecognized word to your spell
checker's dictionary. Be careful not to add things to the
dictionary that will not generalize to other documents. Once a word is
added, the learn mode and spell checker will not report it again.
The "macro" option allows you to add the error to your universal or
temporary macro file without entering the proofreader. See the
section on adding macros for details on the prompts you will see and
how to respond to them.
The "quit" option exits learn mode and returns you to the main
menu. If you re-enter learn mode with the same document loaded, the
errors list reappears.
