└───────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────┴─────────────────┘
Welcome to Quick Duplicator Plus (+). This program will allow you to
easily make many copies of a disk without a lot of problems or special
equipment. It can easily read most disk types for IBM compatibles into a
special duplication file on your hard drive. You may then make many copies
of that disk without inserting the original. This program was designed for
individuals who need to mass produce disks: Shareware authors, small
businesses, schools, etc.

│ Chapter 2 │ About Shareware │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Shareware is an excellent concept in software marketing. It allows you to
try the product before you buy it for a short period of time.
You may use the unregistered shareware version of Quick Duplicator+ for 15
days. After your 15 day trial period expires, you must either stop using
the program or register it.
Quick Duplicator+ is being sold at an excellent price. Registration only
costs $10.00 US Currency! The registration form is in the file ORDER.TXT,
and should be printed, completed, and then sent to the address listed in
the last chapter of this documentation (Contacting the Author).
The unregistered version of Quick Duplicator+ is fully functional, however
it will display screens asking you to register it during the beginning and
ending sequences of the program. Once you register it, such screens will
be removed, and the ending screen will be replaced with a "Registered"
screen.

│ Chapter 3 │ Features of Quick Duplicator+ │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Quick Duplicator+ has many features to make it one of the most easy to use
mass duplication packages available including all of the following:
* Easy to use pull down menus with mouse support. The interface is fully
windowed.
* Automatically formats destination disks before the duplication process
begins.
* There is nearly no limit to the number of configuration files that may
be present. You may have as many configurations as needed.
* Quick Duplicator+ supports the following disk formats:
5 1/4 inch floppies: 360kb 1.2 Megs
3 1/2 inch floppies: 720kb 1.44 Megs
┌───────────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Chapter 4 │ Loading and Configuring Quick Duplicator+ │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
To start Quick Duplicator, change to the directory that it is located in.
Then, type in QCOPY at the DOS prompt. The program will load, and you
should eventually be presented with a copyright notice. If you have a
mouse, and it is set up correctly, you should be able to move the mouse
pointer around on your screen. The mouse pointer is an inverse block on
the screen. If you are using your keyboard to control Quick Duplicator,
press ENTER to continue. If you are using your mouse, click on the OK
button.
If you are using the unregistered shareware version, another dialog box
will appear reminding you to register. Click on OK again once you have
read the information in this dialog box.
You should be left with an "empty" desktop if you have done everything
correctly. On the first line of your screen, you should see a menubar
which looks something like the following:
File Configure Duplication
On the bottom of your screen you should see the following:
F1 Load Configuration F2 Configure F3 Save Configuration F5 Image Dupe
This is the "Command Bar" and allows you to quickly select options without
pulling a menu down.
Before you can use Quick Duplicator Plus, you must configure it. This is
done by selecting the Configure pull down menu.
* If you are using a keyboard, press your F10 key to go to the pull down
menus. Then, using your arrow keys, move the selection bar to the
Configure menu and press ENTER.
* If you are using your mouse, click on the Configure selection on the
menubar.
If you did the above correctly, you should see a menu appear under the
Configure option on the menubar. The following options should be
available:
File Configure Duplication
┌─────────────────────────┐
│ Load Configuration F1 │
│ Configure F2 │
│ Save Configuration F3 │
│ New Configuration F4 │
└─────────────────────────┘
* If you are using a keyboard, use your arrow keys to select New
Configuration and press ENTER.
* If you are using a mouse, click on New Configuration.
A dialog box named "Create New Configuration" should appear. Enter an 8
character or less filename for your configuration file. An extension of
.CFG will automatically be added.
Press ENTER when you have finished. To select different options in the
dialog box, use your TAB key. To cancel the dialog box, press your ESC
(Escape) key.
Now, go on to the chapter "The Configure Dialog Box" for information on
how to configure Disk Duplicator+.
┌───────────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Chapter 5 │ The Configure Dialog Box │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The Configure Dialog Box is where you set all the parameters for your
configuration file. To move between different sections in the configure
dialog box, press your TAB key. If you are using your mouse, you can
simply click on options.
If you wish to move the Configure Dialog Box (or any other dialog box) in
the Disk Duplicator+ program, simply click on the title of the dialog and
drag it to the position you would like to place it on your screen. Then,
once this has been done, let go. You can not move dialog boxes in Quick
Duplicator+ if you do not have a mouse.
First, you should select the type of disk you are going to be duplicating.
The available disk sizes are:
┌─┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┬─┐
│o│ 360 KB │ Low density 5 1/4" disk. │o│
│ │ 720 KB │ Low density 3 1/2" disk. │ │
│o│ 1.2 Meg │ High density 5 1/4" disk. High density drive required. │o│
│ │ 1.44 Meg │ High density 3 1/2" disk. High density drive required. │ │
│o│──────────┴─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────│o│
│ │ IMPORTANT: Select only the correct disk type. Failure to do so │ │
│o│ could cause unpredictable results. │o│
└─┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┴─┘
Once you have done this, select the next field. This is the "Use
duplication file" field. This may be used in future versions, but is not
in this version. The status of this button does not matter.
The next field you should check is the Duplication Filename. This allows
you to change the duplication filename from the default to something else.
It is recommended that you leave it at the default. Duplication file names
should NOT include an extension.
The next field is the source drive. Set this to the drive that you will
read the source disk in from.
The next field is the destination drive. Set this to the drive that you
would like all copies to be written to.
* To save your changes, select the OK button.
* If you want to throw out any changes you made, select CANCEL.
┌───────────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Chapter 6 │ Other Configuration Options │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
There are several other selections available on the Configure menu besides
New Configuration. They are:
Load Configuration (F1 Key)
Configure (F2 Key)
Save Configuration (F3 Key)
* Load Configuration allows you to load a configuration file. The open
configuration file dialog box is very similar to the New Configuration
File dialog box.
* Configure allows you to edit the currently loaded configuration file. If
a configuration file has not been loaded, you will be notified of such
and the operation will be canceled.
* Save Configuration allows to save any changes you made to your
configuration after editing them using the Configure selection.
┌───────────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Chapter 7 │ Disk Duplication (Making the Duplication File) │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Before duplicating a disk, you need to create a duplication file. Once
this is done, you can copy the disk at any time the configuration file is
loaded and the duplication file is available without inserting the
original disk.
Before you begin the process, insert the source disk in the drive you
configured as the source drive. Make sure that Quick Duplicator+ is
configured for the correct type of disk.
Once you have done so, select the Duplication menu.
* If you are using your keyboard, press your F10 key and use your arrow
keys to select the Duplication menu. Then press ENTER to bring up the
menu.
* If you are using your mouse, click on Duplication.
If you have done the above correctly, you should see the following
options:
Make Duplication Image
Duplicate From Image (F5 Key)
* If you are using your keyboard, use your arrow keys to select Make
Duplication Image. Then, press ENTER.
* If you are using your mouse, click on Make Duplication Image.
A dialog box should appear reminding you to insert your source disk in the
appropriate drive. Click on OK to begin the process.
Quick Duplicator+ will read the disk into your duplication file. A window
will appear showing you the status of the operation. If you wish to cancel
the operation, press your ESC (Escape) key.
Once the operation is done, the status dialog box will close and you will
be returned to your desktop.
If there was an error, a dialog box will appear notifying you of such an
occurrence.
┌───────────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Chapter 8 │ Disk Duplication (Duplicating From Image) │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
To duplicate a disk, you should make sure that you have a corresponding
duplication image on your hard drive for your configuration file.
Insert the disk you wish to put the duplication image onto into your
destination drive (as configured with your current configuration file).
The disk does not need to be formatted, as Quick Duplicator+ will do so
for you.
Once you have done so, you may now start the duplication process.
* If you are using your keyboard, press your F5 key. If you feel more
comfortable using the pull down menus to select options, select Duplicate
From Image on the Duplication menu.
* If you are using your mouse, click on the Duplication menu. Then, click
on Duplicate From Image. If you wish to use the command bar at the bottom
of the screen, you may also do so by clicking on Image Dupe.
A dialog box will appear reminding you to insert your destination disk
into the appropriate drive. Do so if you have not already. Select OK once
you have done this.
Quick Duplicator will begin the duplication process by formatting the
disk. It will then make a copy of the information in the duplication file
onto the destination disk.
* You may press your ESC (Escape) key to cancel the duplication process.
┌───────────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Chapter 9 │ The File Menu │
└───────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The File menu allows you to either "Shell to DOS" or "Exit".
* To shell to DOS, select the File menu using the procedures described
above and select "Shell to DOS".
* To Exit, you may either press the key combination Alt-X on your
keyboard, or you can select the File menu using the procedures described
above and select "Exit".
