External Protocals for Qmodem
This short readme file is written to make setting up external protocals for
Q-modem easier. I've included 2 great protocals HS-link and ICE Z-Modem
I've also made upload and download bats for each. These Protocals are the
product of many hours of work by their authors which i had nothing to do
with and I suggest reading the doc files that are supplied in each. And
following their liscense agrement. Also included here is a Q-modem Batch
Entry Window converter, or BEW. This file makes it possible to use the
qmodem BEW in the use of these protocals just as you would with z-modem or
Y modem.
First lets get the protocals set up in your qmodem. Unzip the contents of
qmbewcv.zip into your qmodem directory. Then chose witch protocal you want
to install and unzip it there also. Or unzip Both.
Start qmodem and hit Alt-N
Go to protocals and type the name of the protocal you want to install
then enter the name of the upload and download batch files that I supplied.
then hit N for file command prompt. For the special character I would suggest
H for HS-link and I for Ice-z modem. And when your done exit qinstall by using
the exit feature, If you do not do this your changes will not be saved.
That is all there is to that part
Now to use these new protocals. They work much the same as the other
Protocals in qmodem but with added features that will be well worth the effort
of using them. First when you want to upload a file activate the Qmodems BEW
load qmodem and hit alt-6 in the terminal screen the use f2 to pick the files
that you want to upload. Then Hit f10 when you are done with your selection
This will save a file to disk called qmodem.bew the use the page up key to
start the upload and hit either H or I depending on the protocal that you
want to use. When the filename prompt comes up ignore it and hit enter and
qmodem will shell to dos to start your upload or download with your new
protocal.
The batch files are written for qmodem to be set up on drive C in a Qmodem dir
and a dir of c:\qmodem\download for your files to go into. If your system
is set up differently then this you will need to edit these batch files.
HS-link has the advantage of being a bio-directional Transfer protocal that
will allow you to upload and download at the same time, saving on call time
and cutting you phone bill in half.
Ice Z-modem has many features also allowing you to shell to dos, edit files,
play mod music, use the screen saver, get remote computer stats, and chat
with another Ice z modem user.
If you have trouble getting these set up in your Qmodem or just have
questions about their use you can call Howard's INN at 704-289-6544
