  1. <Chapter 11:  Help>
  2.      The entire ORCHIS manual is available for on-line viewing via the
  3. indexed HELP system. At any time, when you are using ORCHIS, you can press
  4. F1 to activate HELP. A new screen layout is then created containing four
  5. windows: a prompt window, a menu window, a graphic window and a document
  6. window. The document window displays a portion of the ORCHIS manual text.
  7. If there is an illustration accompanying the displayed text, it will
  8. appear in the graphic window. See the illustration <[FIG13]>.
  9.  
  10.      The HELP system is context sensitive. The portion of the document
  11. initially displayed depends on the state of ORCHIS when HELP is invoked.
  12. ORCHIS attempts to display the portion of the document relevant to your
  13. current operation. The choice depends on the current menu being displayed
  14. and on the last command executed.
  15.  
  16.      While the HELP system is active, the NumPad keys on the keyboard are
  17. detached from the cursor. (The cursor can only be moved via the mouse).
  18. Instead the NumPad keys control the text displayed in the document window.
  19. The up arrow (or left arrow) moves the displayed text backwards one line.
  20. The down arrow (or right arrow) moves the displayed text forward one line.
  21. PGUP and PGDN move the text display backwards or forwards one page. HOME
  22. and END position the text at the start and end of the current chapter,
  23. respectively.

  25.      When the discussion at one place in the document refers to
  26. information located in a different section, there will often be a
  27. cross-reference mark in the HELP display at that place. This mark consists
  28. of a section number in square brackets displayed in red. If you have a
  29. mouse, you can access the referenced section by positioning the cursor on
  30. the cross-reference mark and pressing the left mouse button. This is
  31. called clicking on the reference. If you do not have a mouse, you can use
  32. the GOTO command <[11.8]> described below to display the new section.

  34.      Illustrations appear in the document text as figure references. These
  35. are highlighted strings of the form "FIGxx" appearing in square brackets,
  36. where "xx" is the figure number. You can click on a figure reference to
  37. display that figure temporarily in the document window, pressing ESC when
  38. you want to restore the normal document display. The same operation can be
  39. performed with the ZOOM command <[11.9]> described below.

  41. <Section 11.1:  Up>
  42.      The UP command moves the document display backwards to display the
  43. previous page of document text. The same function can be invoked by
  44. pressing the page up key, PGUP. This command only moves within the
  45. currently displayed chapter. To move to another chapter use the GOTO
  46. command <[11.8]> described below.

  48. <Section 11.2:  Top>
  49.      The TOP command moves the document display to the top of the current
  50. chapter. The same function can be invoked by pressing the HOME key.

  52. <Section 11.3:  Down>
  53.      The DOWN command moves the document display forwards to display the
  54. following page of document text. The same function can be invoked by
  55. pressing the page down key, PGDN. This command only moves within the
  56. currently displayed chapter. To move to another chapter use the GOTO
  57. command <[11.8]> described below.

  59. <Section 11.4:  Bottom>
  60.      The BOTTOM command moves the document display to the bottom of the
  61. current chapter. The same function can be invoked by pressing the END key.

  63. <Section 11.5:  Contents>
  64.      The CONTENTS command displays the table of contents of the ORCHIS
  65. manual. There is one entry for each section of the manual. Each entry
  66. includes the section number and the section title. The HELP system treats
  67. the table of contents like any other chapter of the document. All of the
  68. HELP commands (UP, DOWN, SEARCH, REPEAT, etc.) are equally applicable to
  69. the table of contents. When you have located the section that you wish to
  70. consult, simply click on its section number in the table of contents to go
  71. to that section of the document. You can also use the GOTO command
  72. <[11.8]> described below to display that section.

  74. <Section 11.6:  Search>
  75.      With the SEARCH command you can search the current chapter (or table
  76. of contents) for the first occurrence of a given word. The search begins
  77. at the top of the current chapter. The search ignores the distinction
  78. between upper and lower case; either case of a letter counts as a match
  79. for that letter. If you want to find additional occurrences of the same
  80. word use the REPEAT command <[11.7]> described below.

  82.      To operate the SEARCH command press the command letter, type in the
  83. word you want to search for and press ENTER. ORCHIS will locate the first
  84. occurrence of the string you typed, and will display it highlighted in red
  85. in the document window.

  87.      The SEARCH command is particularly useful for searching the table of
  88. contents to find the sections referring to a particular topic. See the
  89. CONTENTS command <[11.5]> described above.

  91. <Section 11.7:  Repeat>
  92.      After you have used the SEARCH command <[11.6]> to find the first
  93. occurrence of a given word, you can use the REPEAT command to find
  94. subsequent occurrences of the same word within the current chapter. Press
  95. the command letter to locate the second occurrence. Continue pressing the
  96. command letter to find the third and subsequent occurrences.

  98. <Section 11.8:  Goto>
  99.      To display a particular chapter or section in the document window use
  100. the GOTO command. Press the command letter, then type in the desired
  101. section number and press ENTER. The designated section will be displayed
  102. in the document window.
  103.  
  104.      Section numbers consist of one, two, or three numbers separated by
  105. periods. For example, 10, 10.2, and 10.2.4 are possible sections numbers.
  106. The first number is the chapter number; the second is the section number
  107. and the third the sub-section number. To find the section number of the
  108. section that you want to consult, use the CONTENTS command <[11.5]> to
  109. display the table of contents of the manual.

  111. <Section 11.9:  Zoom>
  112.      The ZOOM command temporarily replaces the document window display
  113. with a magnified copy of the illustration displayed in the graphics
  114. window. Press the command letter a second time (or press ESC) to restore
  115. the document text display.
