  17.          One of the advantages of using GolfLog is that Golfers can
  18.          not only keep statistical data on all their golf games, but
  19.          also know the status of their Handicap Index after each
  20.          game is recorded.  By knowing this, and being able to take a
  21.          look at the stats provided by GolfLog, the Golfer is able to
  22.          know the progress of his/her game on a daily basis.

  26.    <*>   with v9.0a  For those of you not familiar with "ESC", a brief
  27.    <*>   description is available further down this document (see "New

  29.    <*>   your local PGA Pro, Club Pro/Manager or state Golf Association.

  31.          As it stands now, it is believed that GolfLog takes into
  32.          account everything that is considered by the U.S.G.A. when
  33.          an "official" Handicap Index is established.

  36.    <*>   Index, it must be understood that this Index does not replace
  37.    <*>   the "official" Handicap Index provided by the U.S.G.A. nor is

  39.    <*>   entering tournaments where the participating Golfers are to be
  40.    <*>   flighted based on their U.S.G.A. Handicap Index.

  167.          2.. Refined the "autodate" routine in the "Add Game" procedure.
  168.              When inputting the date of the game, the user may press the
  169.              Escape Key at any time and the screen will clear, and the
  170.              user is returned to the Main Menu.  The game record file
  171.              will remain untouched as no new game record will have been
  172.              added.  Pressing the Escape Key here has the same effect
  173.              as the <F-10>+<Enter> Keys have at any of the other prompts.

  175.          3.. If the user has selected the military format (DD-MM-19YY)
  176.              GolfLog will now show the extended date in a "Day Month, Year"
  177.              format.  For example the date of 15-09-1994 will appear as
  178.              15 August, 1994

  181.              the amount of free space left on the hard drive where GolfLog
  182.              is installed.

  184.          5.. As GolfLog is loading, it now checks for the amount of free
  185.              space left on the current drive and if it finds less than
  186.              250,000 bytes, it will warn the user that free space is getting
  187.              low and he/she might want to move GolfLog and all its files to
  188.              a disk with more space available.  The 250,000 bytes represent
  189.              just a little more than half of a 360K floppy disk.  If you're
  190.              down to that amount of free space remaining, you either need
  191.              to go in and clean up (delete old/unused files) the disk or
  192.              get a larger capacity drive.

  196.              MS-DOS's "DoubleSpace" has been used.  GolfLog will report

  767.              ready to select a course and GolfLog finds that there's
  768.              no 18 hole courses in the database, it will flash a small
  769.              box on screen informing you about the "18 hole course"
  770.              requirement.  It will do likewise if you select a 9 hole
  771.              course from the PickList when there's 18 hole courses
  772.              available for selection.

  775.          5.. Changed the look of the PickList used when selecting a
  776.              Course for adding Game Records, editing Course Records,
  777.              reviewing Course Records, deleting Course Records, and
  778.              selecting a course to be used for Handicap Index purposes.
  779.              The line for each Course Record available will now show
  780.              the Course PAR, then Course name and finally, the city
  781.              and state where the course is located.

  784.          6.. Revised the "Print Game Record" so "high ASCII" characters
  785.              are not used when the Score Card is printed.  This was
  786.              causing some confusion with users who do not have the
  787.              correct DIP switches set on their printer allowing it
  788.              to print "high ASCII" characters.  If you wish to check
  789.              your printer, print the file "GOLFLOG.DOC" and if you
  790.              get a rectangular box around the word "GolfLog" on the
  791.              first page, you have the correct settings.  If you get
  792.              a crazy mixture of miscellaneous characters, you need to
  793.              refer to your printer instructions for details on how to

  881.              determine the Handicap Index and the result is "0" (meaning
  882.              the Golfer is a "scratch" Golfer), then "ESC" is turned ON
  883.              by GolfLog and remains there until it is turned OFF by the
  884.              user.

  886.              NOTE that by using "ESC", the Handicap Index established
  887.              by GolfLog will be more accurate than without it, and even
  888.              closer to the "official" Index established by the U.S.G.A.

  895.          2.. Added the option to edit a Course Record.  With the exception
  896.              of the Course name, all other fields in the record can be
  897.              edited.  When this screen appears, it will show the current
  898.              value of each field.  To leave the value as is, press the
  899.              <Enter> Key without entering anything.  To change a value,
  900.              type over the information shown and press <Enter>.  If you
  901.              need to change the Course name, then you must delete the
  902.              Course Record and re-enter it under the new name using the
  903.              "Add Course Record" at the Main Menu.

  906.          3.. Revised the Utility Menu to include the option to edit a
  907.              Course Record.  Other minor cosmetic changes to this menu
  908.              were also made.

  911.          4.. When only one Golfer and/or one Course Record is in the
  912.              database, the user will no longer be asked to select the
  913.              Golfer and/or Course.  These will be automatically assumed
  914.              since, in actuality, there's no choice to be made. The only

  916.              is present, is when the user has selected an option to DELETE
  917.              that record.  This is to give the user one last chance to
  918.              back out before the record is removed from the database.

  924.          5.. Removed the 286 version of the executable file (GOLF_286.COM)

  928.              old 286 version.  Registered users may request, and receive
  929.              at no charge, a copy of GolfLog optimized for 286 AT machines
  930.              if desired.  NOTE also that the "XT" version will run on

  935.          6.. Recoded the printer routines for both the "Print Game Record"
  936.              and "Print Summary" Options.  Users should notice a speed
  937.              improvement from the time the Golfer and/or Game Record
  938.              is selected to the time printing actually begins.  Users
  939.              should understand also that as Game Records build up in the
  940.              database, the longer it will take for all the information to
  941.              be gathered and compiled.  NOTE also that printer buffers have
  942.              a lot to do with speed.  The larger the buffer, the faster
  943.              the printing will be.  Also, GolfLog now checks the printer
  944.              port immediately after either of these two options are
  945.              selected.  If the port number does not match the one found
  946.              in the configuration file or the port is not active, GolfLog
  947.              will honk at you and flash a message box on screen to advise
  948.              that the printer did not answer the door when GolfLog knocked.
