Long Description:
-----------------
FILENOTE manages a database of notes that you can write for any file
in any directory, even floppies. Each note can be up to 8k (goverened
by disk space). Notes are written using the FILENOTE Editor which is
part of FILENOTE. Just click the file, listed on the FILENOTE Viewer
Screen, that you wish to write a note for and the Editor is loaded.
The FILENOTE Editor is very similar to the Editor that is part of
MS-DOS 5.0.
You have the choice to automatically or manually update the note database.
When the note database is updated it will add new files and remove deleted
files along with updating database records to reflect new file dates on
files that have been edited.
With the FILENOTE Viewer, you can scroll and view the files and
associated notes simultaneously. Notes can be displayed using a short
or long display. Short display shows the first line of the note, whereas
long shows the first 7 lines of the note along with the file data which
includes file size, file generation date, file edit date, note generate
date, note edit date and the name of the program that the file is
associated with.
FILENOTE allows you the ability to filter files by Filespec. Notes can
be sorted by filename, file or note generate date, file or note edit
date or generating program name.
Easily delete old files with one keystroke or mouse click.
You do not have to access the database files themselves to remove old
data. Just select Maintenance and FILENOTE will tell you if the
database has old data and should be cleaned up. FILENOTE will auto-
matically clean up the note files if you desire.
You can set several preference defaults that remain in effect until
you change them. Included are, number of lines to display on the
monitor, color parameters for several screen items, note display type
(long or short), note sort choice, startup directory, default
printer among others. These defaults can be changed temporarily during a
FILENOTE session but will be in effect the next time you use FILENOTE.
Send notes to printer, printer specific file or ASCII file. When notes
are printed you can decide to print one note, all notes, short note
summary for all notes or long note summary for all notes. Select
compressed print to allow you to print more information per page.
FILENOTE creates a FN.BAT file that, when put in your PATH, allows
FILENOTE to be run from any directory. With this feature all you have
to do is be in the directory that has files you want to write notes
for and type FN and FILENOTE loads itself and goes directly to the
Viewer screen so you can begin adding notes.
FILENOTE uses WINDOWS style menus, hot keys and has full mouse support.
Supports Epson, Hewlett Packard and compatible printers along with other
popular printers. Additional printer drivers available in file FN100P.ZIP
on CompuServe IBMSYS Lib 6 or contact Basic Solutions.
