  66. 1.1 About File Manager Toolbar
  67. -----------------------------

  69. FM Toolbar is an extender of File Manager for Microsoft(R)
  70. Windows(tm) 3.1, 3.11. It provides File Manager with a toolbar,
  71. similar to one used in File Manager for Windows for
  72. Workgroups(tm).
  73.  
  74. FM Toolbar is a great timesaver. Statistics shows that toolbar for
  75. File Manager is one of two main reasons why individual users of
  76. Windows 3.1 upgrade to Windows for Workgroups (the other reason is
  77. slightly improved performance). FM Toolbar is an alternative,
  78. effective and inexpensive way to upgrade your system. FM Toolbar
  79. will save you a great deal of time! With FM Toolbar your will work
  80. with File Manager easier and faster.

  90. After FM Toolbar ver.1.0 :

  92. 1) New SETUP utility - you can activate/deactivate FM Toolbar
  93.    whenever you wish; you can quicly take a look at the software
  94.    without actually installing it onto hard or network disk; etc.

  96. 2) Completely updated documentation; on-line context-sensitive
  97.    Help; new command 'Register/Unregister'.

  99. No changes to previous code made since no bugs were found or
  100. reported!

  102. If you have registered any previous version of the FM Toolbar, you
  103. can upgrade to the ver.1.5 FREE. To register your copy of the FM
  104. Toolbar you can use the same Registration Number as you used for
  105. ver.1.0.

  107. 1.3 How to use the documentation
  108. --------------------------------

  110. The complete information on the FM Toolbar software, including the
  111. description of the installation procedure, how to get updates, how
  112. to register your copy, troubleshooting hints, order forms, answers
  113. to frequently asked questions, etc., is available in the Windows
  114. Help format, file FMTB.HLP.
  115.  
  116. If you have already installed FM Toolbar you can access the
  117. information by choosing Toolbar | Help from File Manager's menu.
  118.  
  119. Or, double click the 'FM Toolbar Help' icon in the FMToolbar group
  120. created for Program Manager after automatic installation.
  121.  
  122. Or, choose command 'Run' from Program Manager or File Manager main
  123. menu, and enter the full name (including complete path) of the
  124. FMTB.HLP file. For example, if you have placed the FM Toolbar
  125. files into directory TEMP on your hard disk C, enter the following
  126. string into the 'Run' dialog box:

  128.         C:\TEMP\FMTB.HLP
  129.  
  130. and click OK button.
  131.  
  132. Yet another way to view the file is open the directory window
  133. with the File Manager and double click filename FMTB.HLP with
  134. the mouse.

  136. 1.4. THIS IS SHAREWARE: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY !

  139. This is NOT a free or public domain software. This is SHAREWARE,
  140. i.e. copyrighted software which you can "try before you buy".
  141. Shareware is a great concept and we encourage you to try out File
  142. Manager Toolbar and pass along its copies to your friends.

  145. days. After that time, you are required to purchase the software
  146. through registration or else discontinue its use. (please read the

  162. Sometimes when you start or close File Manager, the registration
  163. reminder screen is displayed. This is the ONLY difference between
  164. registered and unregistered versions of the FM Toolbar (unless
  165. you've obtained a newer version of the software from us). In fact,
  166. when you register FM Toolbar, we provide you with a unique
  167. registration number which can be used to suppress the
  168. registration reminder screen.

  215. Unlike most other Windows applications, FM Toolbar is not a
  216. stand-alone program: there is no special executable file you would
  217. run to start the FM Toolbar. To use the FM Toolbar software, all you
  218. need is properly install it, and it will run automatically every
  219. time you run the File Manager.
  220.  
  221. 2.1. Using Setup utility
  222. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  223. FM Toolbar v.1.5 comes with convenient and flexible SETUP utility,
  224. you can use it if you want to temporarily activate/deactivate the
  225. software or install it onto your hard or network disk for
  226. permament use.
  227.  
  228. 2.1.1. HOW TO QUICKLY TRY OUT THE SOFTWARE
  229. ------------------------------------------
  230.  
  231. If you obtained FM Toolbar software on a diskette or CD-ROM and
  232. want to take a look at the FM Toolbar without installing it onto
  233. your hard disk, run SETUP.EXE from the FM Toolbar directory on the
  234. diskette or CD-ROM and choose button 'Activate' when prompted.
  235.  
  236.   - to run SETUP.EXE, choose File | Run from main menu of Program
  237.     Manager or File Manager and type into the 'Run' dialog box:
  238.  
  239.         A:\TOOLBAR\SETUP.EXE
  240.  
  241.     (assuming that the diskette is inserted into the 'A' floppy
  242.     drive)
  243.  
  244. After that run File Manager: there should appear a new item in its
  245. main menu: Toolbar (if there is no such an item, the FM Toolbar has
  246. not been activated; see below in this file for possible reasons)
  247. Of course, be sure that the diskette or CD with FM Toolbar is
  248. available during the loading of the File Manager!
  249.  
  250. Now, if you see that FM Toolbar is not what you need, just run
  251. SETUP.EXE and choose 'Deactivate' button - your system will forget
  252. about FM Toolbar!
  253.  
  254. Otherwise, if you want to give the program more long try and wish
  255. to install it onto your hard or network disk, you can choose
  256. button 'Install' when SETUP.EXE prompts you. Please see the next
  257. section of this file for more information.
  258.  
  259. 2.1.2. Installing on a hard or network disk
  260. -------------------------------------------
  261.  
  262. If you have already placed all the files from the FM Toolbar
  263. package on your hard disk (for instance, you have extracted the
  264. files from an archive), you can just run SETUP.EXE and choose
  265. button 'Activate'.
  266.  
  267. If you don't have the FM Toolbar files on the hard disk, choose
  268. 'Install' button instead and then enter the path to directory
  269. where you want the FM Toolbar be installed. In this case SETUP.EXE
  270. will copy all the files to new location and then activate them.
  271. In addition, you will be prompted to create a separate program
  272. group for FM Toolbar. It's not essential to have such a group, but
  273. it can be convenient. Anyway, the last word is yours!
  274.  
  275. 2.1.3. Uninstalling FM Toolbar
  276. -----------------------------
  277.  
  278. To prevent File Manager from loading and using FM Toolbar, you can
  279. run SETUP.EXE and choose 'Deactivate' button. If you decide to
  280. start using FM Toolbar later on, run SETUP.EXE and choose
  281. 'Activate'.
  282.  
  283. Otherwise, to completely remove FM Toolbar from your system,
  284. deactivate it with the SETUP.EXE utility (see above) and remove
  285. all the files from directory on your hard or network disk where
  286. you have installed FM Toolbar. In addition, delete program group
  287. 'FMToolbar' from your Program Manager, if your created it during
  288. installation.
  289.  
  290. 2.2. Registering your copy of the FM Toolbar
  291. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  292. Sometimes FM Toolbar displayes a registration reminder, and the
  293. About FM Toolbar screen reads 'Unregistered copy'. If you have
  294. registered FM Toolbar and obtained your personal Registration
  295. Number from us, you may use it to remove the registration reminder
  296. from the screen and put your name in the About FM Toolbar screen:
  297. choose Register from the Toolbar menu of File Manager and when a
  298. dialog box pops up, enter your name (exactly as it appears in your
  299. Registration Acknowledgment) and the Registration Number.
  300.  
  301. Be sure to enter your name EXACTLY as it's written in the
  302. Registration Acknowledgment, including all the spaces, punctuation,
  303. and entering letters in proper case (upper or lower). If you wish
  304. your name to be spelled differently please let us know and we
  305. assign you a new registraion number.
  306.  
  307. 2.3. Manual installation/deinstallation
  308. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  309. If the automatic installation fails by any reason, you can install
  310. the FM Toolbar manually:
  311.  
  312. 1. Create a directory on a hard disk for FM Toolbar, say
  313.    C:\TOOLBAR, and copy all the files from the FM Toolbar
  314.    installation disk into that directory. If you obtained the FM
  315.    Toolbar files compressed in an archive, extract all the files
  316.    from it.
  317.  
  318. 2. Close File Manager.
  319.  
  320. 3. Open file WINFILE.INI for editing (using Notepad or any other
  321.    text editor). This file is located in the WINDOWS directory on
  322.    your hard disk (or directory you specified when installing
  323.    Windows). Please note: the file you need is WINFILE.INI, not
  324.    WIN.INI.
  325.  
  326.    Find the section [AddOns] in this file and place the following
  327.    string right after the string [AddOns]:
  328.  
  329.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  330.  
  331.    (or specify the directory you copied the FM Toolbar's files in,
  332.    if other than TOOLBAR).
  333.  
  334.    The resulting portion of the WINFILE.INI should look like
  335.    this:
  336.  
  337.         ...
  338.         [AddOns]
  339.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  340.         ...
  341.  
  342.    (... means other lines of the file). Save the file.
  343.  
  344. 4. Run File Manager.
  345.  
  346. You shell find new menu item, Toolbar, among the other items of the
  347. File Manager's main menu, if the installation has been completed
  348. successfully. If you cannot see the Toolbar item in the main menu
  349. of the File Manager, an error has occurred. Please verify that you
  350. have done all the steps above, and, particularly, specified
  351. correct path in the [AddOns] section of the WINFILE.INI file. Make
  352. sure also that the files have not been corrupted when copying them
  353. onto your hard disk (do they have the same sizes as the files on
  354. the installation diskette?)
  355.  
  356. To manually uninstall FM Toolbar:
  357.  
  358. 1. Close File Manger and remove string 'FM Toolbar=...' from
  359.    WINFILE.INI file (using Notepad, for example). After that you
  360.    can restart File Manager: FM Toolbar will not be loaded.
  361.    If you decide later to start using FM Toolbar again, place the
  362.    string 'FM Toolbar=...' specifying complete DOS path to
  363.    FMTB.DLL file, in the [AddOn] section of the WINFILE.INI
  364.    file.
  365.  
  366. There following steps should be completed only if you wish to
  367. remove the FM Toolbar from your system permanently:
  368.  
  369. 2. Delete all the files from the directory on your hard disk where
  370.    you installed FM Toolbar in;
  371.  
  372. 3. Delete program group 'FMToolbar' in the Program manager window,
  373.    if there is one.
  374.  
  375. We hope you'll change your mind!
